Is Gintama worth watching? On MAL an incredible eight of the top 50 highest rated anime are Gintama-related. I don't really trust MAL, though, for obvious reasons. Is this series worth getting into? Anything to be aware of?

No. The unfunniest anime """comedy"""
Yes.
I hope you are not one of those fags who does not like translator notes
Yes, it all gets worth it after the first 200 episodes.
People call it Anime Family Guy but it's much funnier and friendly than Family Guy. It's just unfortunate that Gintama also has these serious arcs that range to pretty good to absolutely terrible. The end of the manga/anime is an extended one of these that boils down to Gintoki beating ayys up for like thirty episodes or something with this really dumb plot.
>it's much funnier and friendly
>shows the shogun naked most of the time
>poop jokes
You must be a truly sad and jaded individual if you can't enjoy a good ol' poop joke.
it gets good after 150 episodes
>So when does it get good? I’m 50 episodes in and it’s kinda boring
>You’re almost there bro, just watch until episode 150 and it’s all gonna be worth it
yeah but family guy has all of those too. I laughed more at Gintama, even if just a little bit. And by friendly I mean usually at the end it's resolved, unless if you're MADAO.
I don't get why people say this because I've always thought the golden age was the earlier parts of the show, pre-200.
Yes. Just look up the best episodes and watch them. Personally, I think it gets better in the Sequel Series than the first series but the first series has fifty amazing episodes out of...two hundred.
Obvious joke is obvious.
I actually agree with you, but there are still plenty of great episodes from later on.
The episodes where there's some serious emotional nonsense suck. Otherwise it's funny.
>MADAO
speaking of him, did he finally find happiness? I dropped the manga with all that serious crap about Gintoki's master
for a very brief moment in the final arc(s), yes
for a while he was seen as a hero who defeated the aliens and saved tokyo
he did and then he didn't
god what a great character he is
It's pretty damn funny and I'm generally not a fan of these repetitive long-running comedy shows but I really enjoyed it. I would advise against marathoning the later episodes as the show kinda devolves into one serious arc after the next and while there's a bit of fun sometimes sprinkled into them they can feel very repetitive and annoying at times because of repeated tropes, constant flashbacks and cringey dialogue about the 'samurai spirit' and what-not.
i heard it was jap family guy so im prob gonna watch it for that
Watch it but only the MaDaO episodes.
It's fun if you like that style of episodic comedy
Give it a try and drop it if you dislike it
I had to go to crunchy roll to get the same translators I was used too.
It has a shit tonne of info and in jokes, it has great short stories too, but it isn't for everyone.
Not worth it.
>Is Gintama worth watching?
Do you like the sound of a comedic, almost SOL-style series about no good oddjobs group, set in alternative history of Japan, with aliens, robots, samurai and ninja's clashing, with tons of modern Nippon shenanigas in the mix?
Do you like LOL RANDOM, tons of references to other shows & media products, and the 4th wall being broken actively and on purpose all the time?
Are you OK with occasional "serious" arcs where SHTF, and rare feels episodes that may make you feel like shit?
And most importantly: are you OK with a series that's first ~20 episodes are literally the worst the series has to offer, but still are essential introduction and foreshadowing episodes you should sit through anyway? Not counting the first 2 episodes, that are the only real filler of the whole show, that is.
If you got more "yes" answers, then Gintama might be just the thing for ya.
I personally started watching the show pretty recently, finishing the last episode + released OVAs & films in early 2017, and it was helluva show!
No idea if I'd bothered to sit through the first season when it aired, but being able to marathon it all did make it easy to digest.
It's comfy. Not something you go out of your way to watch, more like you put it on when you eat.
gintamafags be like
>watch gintama it's great
it's boring
>it gets good after the 20th episode
it's still boring
>keep watching it gets good after the 50th episode
it's still boring though
>i promise, it'll be good after the 100th episode
Is Gintama worth finishing?
I temporarily dropped it when they were doing the unadapated comedy arrcs, I wasnt laughing and the production quality had really gone down
I loved everything up till the end of the FS arc
>And most importantly: are you OK with a series that's first ~20 episodes are literally the worst the series has to offer
Not OP but this is good to know. I watched the first three or four and couldn't go on. Might give it another shot.
I loved it.
Redpill me on Sket Dance
Only people that don't like Gintama will make a post like that, the show is great from episode 1, or 3 depending on the version you are watching.
Pretty good series but the ending was a kick in the balls to everyone, literally the most blue balled series ever made, at least if you got invested into the characters and their relationships.
