Re:Zero

I can't wait to see my wife in season 2.

Who?

Rem of course.

I mean, you'll see her I guess.

Last thread archived as soon I was about to ask. But does Subaru become a better protag? Or is that like his character gimmick, he's a serious Kazuma?

I can't wait for you to see my wife too.

>But does Subaru become a better protag?
From Zero. If you don't agree than you don't understand. The anime does not do that scene or any of his character development justice.

Dona? I want to see her too.

Better in what sense? He becomes generally less spergy and a little more capable over time, at least in most cases.

>Literally guzzles the cum of condiments by the bottle

Well, what struck out to me when I watched season one, he really doesn't have any redeeming qualities of an isekai hero. Most are OP, or as the season goes on they have some talent. He grew as a person, but he's still pretty worthless as a protagonist, not really a "hero" type.

He gains some abilities, but they play largely a supportive role and have to be used more carefully as they're limited resources in a sense, he's probably never going to become OP because that defeats the purpose of what Re: Zero is trying to accomplish. He gets lots of recognition as a hero, but it's largely due to his leadership and advice in handling situations rather than him personally running out and laying bitches out.

Rem is no longer canon

Also I'll add he has a lot of villain qualities and is honestly working for at least one of the bad guys in this situation. His entire faction is kind of morally gray in a lot of ways but they at least try and do good things and aren't overall bad people.

how dare you use my image and spout such heresy

>they at least try and do good things
Okay, by 'they' I mean 'everyone except fucking Roswaal'

She never existed bro

Okay, that'll keep me holding on. I liked season 1 but I wasn't really crazy about it like I was with similar shows like Overlord or Shield hero. I plan on giving season 1 a rewatch once the directors cut, or whatever finishes or I think Funimation is getting ready to re-release S1 as a whole set, so I might buy that. I'm not sure yet.

Director's cut already finished. There's almost nothing changed or added for most episodes, but Jullius' fights look better and there's a very important thing tacked onto the end.

I'd really recommend just reading it if you can. The anime has some good things going for it, but it messes up the story and characters to a retarded degree

His character is the response to the "isekai hero". Most of those stories are fantasy to tell the MC/audience to an extent that the world needs them, women throw themselves at him for saving them, they are super powerful and everyone relies on him. It's validation.
>“I’m the person who saved your life! Your rescuer! Now you are the heroine I rescued. Don’t you think that I should get some kind of reward? Don’t you think so?!” ( Arc 1 after defeating Elsa)
Subaru is the response as he starts off as a parody kind of, he's obsession is to validate himself. He sees Emilia and declares her his heroine and then proceeds to white knight the fuck out of her. It's more obvious in the WN but he thinks she will reward him for his service with sex/relationship.
>“Nothing will work unless I’m with her… Now she’ll understand that.”
>It was unfounded certainty—no, it was nothing but hope.
>Emilia had fallen into peril. If he was there, galloping to her rescue, somehow everything would work out. That was his slender, flickering hope, in danger of being snuffed out by the wind.
>He wanted to prove his worth. He needed to.
>If Emilia was in distress, Subaru would save her.”
>“No, that’s how it had to be. Subaru needed Emilia to fall into peril so that he could discover his own value—and show others that he had worth.
>“That’s right… It’s no good if I’m not with her. For sure…!” (the first loop of Arc 3 where the village is destroyed, Rem is dead)
He's insane. There is a part of him that actively wants Emilia to be in danger to give him the reason to come rushing to her side, not rushing - galloping I mean.

He drops this at around episode 15 where he now becomes fixated on avenging the dead and killing Petelguese. That ultimately doesn't get him very far and he breaks down at the end of episode 17. Episode 18 is Rem giving him the validation he needs, giving him a new identity in that world being "Rem's Hero" which is the glue that keeps him together.

That's literally a good thing though? Don't tell me your the kind of fag that needs a super competent MC to self insert into.

Why do you think so many Zig Forumsnons hated episode 13

Well, the anime doesn't ever show you what he thinks so you get a infinite amount of differences due to how people can see the same character completely differently. Judging by this(last) thread you get all sorts of head canons of what his motivations are, what Rem means to him, what Emilia means to him etc.

It's really hard to explain as I would have to explain what I think anime Subaru is, and then compare him to the LN.

No translations for Arcs 1-3.

I didn't hate it, but my god, forget digging a hole, Toyota went out and got a full-size backhoe for that one.

what the hell does "serious kazuma" mean

It's more so Subaru doesn't come off as a hero, like at all. It's like I was saying, he's like a serious Kazuma. But I'm more willing to accept Kazuma because it's played as a comedy. I think my main problem is character development? Because I did say I like Overlord, an Ainz isn't exactly a prototype hero, but getting the LN spoiled for me, I like the idea that as the series progresses he embraces being the villain. With Subaru, I don't really feel a path for him maybe? It's hard to describe. summed it up pretty well, he just arrives in this world and wants a girl, and is terrible at everything, and you really don't see much progress. But a lot of people are coming off saying the anime isn't portraying the story very well. So maybe I'm just not interpreting it very well. This is why I want to give it a rewatch at some point soon. I didnt watch it until Isekai quartet premiered because I knew nothing from Re:Zero. I'm learning the lore is deep and the anime really isnt doing it justice.

A problem is that you need the inner monologues and narration to fully understand what he's doing, why and how it changes. The plot elements are there, but you aren't likely to be able to fill in those gaps because nothing is really giving you a hint in that direction, anything you think there, even if it's actually right in the LN/WN would come off to you as headcanon, where you're filling in a justification you can't confirm is there.
The From Zero speech is just that, it's Zero. Before that everything is considered a prologue of sorts, he's negative, in the hole, and its only after that that he really starts to move in a positive direction. But given the action-heavy set up of the episodes following that speech, especially since the anime cut or heavily altered a lot of the non-action beats and conversations, you just don't get much of what should have changed.
People will notice the tone changes, because stuff generally goes well for him, but the tone wasn't actually supposed to, they just coped out of the proper ending to make it feel 'upbeat'. What should be the changes are his perspective and intent in what he's doing, and how he goes about it, but that's largely hard to parse through. Not impossible, but you'll get no confirmation that you're right without reading something.

Without Subaru everyone would’ve been dead as fuck. Doesn’t get more heroic than that

Well not everyone, just most everyone, and it depends on which arc he isn't there for. Rem will always die though no matter what arc he fails.

Because they’re waifufags

why does Tappei want her to die?

Attached: EVjqUv9UcAAa_r5.jpg (1929x2695, 708.81K)

Because its fun

Similarly and for the same reason, Petra will also always die.

Also Emilia will be mindbroken by the end
