Yu-Gi-Oh

>Yu-Gi-Oh was supposed to be an 80's manga (with the likes of DB, Jojo, HnK, Saint Seiya) but was turned down until the mid 90's.

Was it for the better or for the worst?

Better. YGO is perfect

80s fans werent ready for as hateful a protagonist as Keiba.

That is true, but it could have had a much bigger impact on the medium if it came out earlier.

More impact than it has now? How is that even possible.

Idk how big the card game could have become however... it was probably going to be the original plan of horror and various games, instead of card games cause there was no Magic yet andt hey weren't a cool thing in the 80s.

Probably would have contributed for more gambling anime. More Egyptian themes. More crazy hair. And more bondage.

And don't forget. No 4kids to ruin its reputation in the West, or abridged series.

>ruin its rep
4kids made it pretty famous. They advertised it to hell and back, made magazines and live VA performances. Even got some exclusive games I think

despite the censor they were passionate about Yugioh

I know... if only their uncut dub gained popularity. They only made three DVD's or smt. Was decent.

What are the chances of us getting a remade Duel Monsters anime true to the Manga? There are way less episodes to animate and Yugi is still popular with the Japs.

Zero. The DSoD movie epilogue was the best thing we could have gotten, and that was only cause of the 20'th anniversary and Kazuki's connections.

With Gallop dead, and Konami pushing the new anime for the card game... It is better if the og was put to rest, like Atem.

This. 90's was a big year for shows/games/etc. that wanted a buy-able tie in, which usually took the form of a TCG.

This is probably the most important thing to consider. I seriously doubt Yu-Gi-Oh would've been able to invent the modern card game all the way back in the 80s from just the manga alone. Without MTG showing the success the medium has to offer Yu-Gi-Oh probably would've remained as the sort of dark gambling series that Takahashi originally envisioned.

If it came out in the 80s it would have probably been more influential. But I'm glad it didn't, because I could have missed it as a kid (or maybe I'd grow up with Gx). Call me selfish, but it's one of the fondest parts of my childhood.

YGO card game was inspired by MTG (in the manga it's literally called magic and wizards) so I kind of doubt Kazuki would have been able to come up with the card game at that time if MTG didn't exist.

I think it was literally only like 6 episodes that were ever released uncut. 4kids went kinda ridiculous with some of the censor ship like the Egyptian god names and removing anything religious but shit like the shadow realm is actually kinda cool. The dub gets memed a bit but had some great performances especially from Yami and Kaiba. The cards being altered for the show was solely because of stupid fucking policies from Reagans worthless ass. It could have been better in places but overall it could have been so so much worse

Hong Kong subs > Singapore dub > 4kids dub > untouched Jap version

Better. Being the biggest, and good, card game show/mangá is YGO thing. I don't understand people wanting the franchise to stay at season 0 format with different games. The series was going to die soon and it would be easily forgotten. Such a waste of characters and potential.

Meanwhile me and a bunch of people in the world at least know what YGO is, it has more than 20 years of history and it'll keep going until god knows when. And I'll be playing at that time too, hopefully when I get kids I'll teach them how to play.

Good thing Takahashi was alive while Gallop was in charge of YGO. Who knows how they would have destroyed the og (Arc-V style) if he wasn't there to stop them.

>shit like the shadow realm is actually kinda cool
no. not even remotely. praise anything other than the shadow realm bullshit.

50% of yugioh's success was it's first opening

this is where all the budget for s5 went

I remember watching this opening online without watching S5 and getting so hyped that the show looked this good.

Then I watched S5 lmao

Good thing the manga at that point actually looked amazing art-wise otherwise I would have been very disappointed.

The animation quality difference between this opening and the actual season is fucking insane.

And you know what the crazier thing is? Somehow GX looked even worse.

It's impossible because Yu-Gi-Oh was influenced by Jojo and Yuyu Hakusho.

>Yuyu Hakusho
First time I hear of this. How exactly?

both can be true, retard. do you think when you have an idea for a story you can't change or add to it over the years? think before you type, mouthbreather, goddamn.

better, because MTG still not creating yet
by making it card game show, its allowed us to see Kaz's true talent, designing monster
