I don't get the joke. I understand that he's overpowered and defeats powerful villains in one punch. But why is that funny?

It isn't, you're just dull

every single time

Your the joke

It is not funny, nips can't into humor, i thought we knew this. You watch it for the battles and drama just like any other shonen

How are there battles when MC just has to punch the enemy once?

They can. They're just lazy and copy each other, which is ironic considering they have some of the most ridiculously strong anti-piracy laws.

its not meant to be funny its all an analogy for depression
dudes depressed nothing in life is challenging or interesting
it also deals with the fact that he has no adversity so how can he be a hero? yeah he can save people but he is not really a hero since he is never in any danger for the sake of others

Holy shit opm fags are retarded

The battles with Genos, you dimwit, when saitama arrives the battle comes to a conclusion
No, nichijou/lucky star/ haruhi whatever mow shit you think is funny is not funny.

It's supposed to be funny because the villains make such a big fuss and power up so much, ala DBZ, only to get rekt in one punch. The thing is, the joke gets old quickly and the series became a battle shounen itself.

I guess that type of thing appeals to redditards desire to be smug and superior

i know this is the pretend to be retarded thread but whatever. the comedy in one punch man is from juxtaposition mostly. Saitama is so strong he can beat anything that challenges him nonchalantly but he's terrified at the thought of being in someone's debt because he has no money, the actually concerning problems are no big deal to him but petty and trivial problems are. you see this style of comedy in other parts of the series: people turn into monsters for incredibly dumb reasons and in the jokes about King everyone works from the assumption that he's really strong when he's just a regular person. They think his extreme social anxiety is actually menacing silence.

You have to be 16

The show is animated well, has good music, and is kinda fun to watch, it helps that it's also only 12 episodes.
Any sensible person dropped it after the first season, I heard it goes full retard mode later on.

comedy works on subverting expectations. Whether it is a regular joke or a comedy cartoon, it's based on this simple principle. Which is why a joke becomes boring the more often you hear it.

A big powerful monster arrives, something you have seen in hundreds of other anime. It can destroy the world and does a pretty good job doing so. Then the hero confronts the villian. You expect them to have a lengthy battle where the hero has to struggle and maybe learn a life lesson the way, with maybe the villain go "I will get you next time!" or "This can't be! I am suppose to be invincible!".
But here comes this dull looking guy and punches the monster once and it's over.

Heck, imagine if you never had heard of this series before and for some reason decides to check it out. You have read the title, "One Punch Man" pretty straight forward. But since you don't expect ANY manga to actually do it, you still think it won't end in one punch. No writer would do that. And yet it happens.

Watch season 1, Its really fun.

in most jokes, the punch line is what makes it funny
but this show only has a one punch line
what's funny is that the whole world is just one massive set up for that one punch line, they keep hyping the villains with ridiculous feats of power and all character takes themselves deadly serious
but even when you know the punch, it's just funny to watch the set up exponentially grow more and more diving deep into power creep territory only for the joke main character to show up, deliver the one punch line and then see the reactions of all the totally serious supporting cast
but even though this show is a comedy, it's still a much better super hero story than anything the west has produced in decades

this is hardly the case later on, they deliberately stop focusing on Saitama to give the supporting cast their highly dangerous and intensifying high stake battles while having no idea Saitama is lerking and could deal with the situation himself.

Also when Saitama does get to the final big bad, it doesn't always end in one punch, some villians can handle a hit from him, at least when he doesn't go full power

>it's still a much better super hero story than anything the west has produced in decades

Watchmen comic, Dark Knight, The Boys.

I'm not even a big comic fan but come on dawg, OPM loses it appeal after like 5 episodes.

Ive never been invited to a Japanese wedding but im sure anime monks are funny

and the setup and execution is usually different each time.
Mosquito Girl, she got slapped
Carnage Kabuto was hyped up to be the strongest ever, if he gets defeated there would still be some drama going on. But instead Saitama completely ignores that guy and focused on the supermarket sale he forgot.
DeepSeaKing, after trashing through a dozen heroes and making the population of a town piss their pants as they are about to be killed, Mumen Rider giving an inspiring speech...for Saitama to tell the monster to hurry up, because it's raining.
Boros, a being that claims to also be so overpowered that he gets bored, like Saitama, gets punched by Saitama into a wall...BUT WAIT, this only destroyed his armor which sealed his all mighty powerful strength, he is the real deal after all!!! But Saitama just casually says Ok, because even this is nothing new to him.
Gouketsu, the punch was offscreen, the monster mattered so little that it wasn't worth showing it, despite the hype.

anytime you have to explain why something is funny then the joke is ruined.

no that user but One punch man is my favorite piece of fiction right now, especially the craziness of the monster association arc that's happening right now

JoJo is funny though

unironically just read more

My joke what?

A bunch of anime/manga only fags in this thread. The manga is better comedy and story wise than it has ever been.
>but this show only has a one punch line
This isn't even true. For one, there's a gag parodying long monologue scenes in the second episode. The are other sources of comedy besides Saitama. King and Tatsumaki being other examples. To add to that, there several other aspects of Saitama's character that's played for laughs besides his strength.
I have never seen a series where the writing is so straightforward get such wildly inaccurate interpretations.
