Well for a lot of people, and a lot of people that use MAL, the choice for best mecha is really only between Code Geass and TTGL, since those are the only two they've seen.

My brain doesn't register Geass as a mecha anime at all. When I think of the most memorable things about the show, the mechs don't even crack the top five. The only one that has a REALLY good design is the Guren. Maybe the Gawain.

Actually, yeah, the Gawain was pretty cool, and it's a shame it got destroyed after only a few episodes. It really suited Lelouch. And the one he gets in R2 just isn't as nice.

You can remove all Mecha from the show without significantly changing it. But you cannot remove Lelouch without destroying it. It's a Lelouch anime, the only one of it's kind.

That is called a one liner, since the joke itself is the punchline.

CG's biggest problem is pacing. Each episode feels like it has about 5 episodes worth of content and developments in it, so nothing has a chance to breathe. If it had been 5 seasons instead of 2, and they focused more on the journey and not rushing to the big moments, it could have been great. It's a lot of really good ideas handled in a mediocre way.

DYRL is one of the worst. It's shit as a standalone movie and it's shit as a reimagining of Macross.

The only good thing about DYRL is the animation.

It didn't get rid of everything bad. The movie itself just shortens shit but while replacing things with equally bad or even worse things to make it work "better" as a movie. Macross is already pretty mediocre imo but just like in pretty much every case of it happening, making an abridged version of something definitely does not make it better.

I thought giving the white colored super prototype to the lawful stupid antagonist was a nice touch. Same for the red custom leading a unit of mooks against it. There are several other nice nods to other sunrise mecha shows. R2 though.

MAL is ultiomately a site for tracking the popularity of anime, user, because it reflects community opinions. You're allowed to disagree, so a MAL score doesn't make something best or worst.

I say this as someone who likes numerous shows with low MAL ratings and don't give a damn.

Most people, even most of Zig Forums, likes Code Geass. You just get a lot of contrarians.

One of things I liked about Code Geass is that most of the time it didn't show or go into detail about how Lelouch Geass'd people behind the scenes for his plans. I mean, we already know he can so why bother?
