I don’t hate Sakura. I just understand the ethical thing to do is to end her suffering rather than let her turn into a shadow demon and murder a bunch of people.

Shirou died that day of the fire. He became a blank slate, a Tabula Rasa. A blade is made by melting down metal in extreme heat and forging it into the desired shape of the maker. Shirou is a weapon cast in Kerry's image, with no will of his own. In every route he would risk his life and be badly hurt, and only Avalon kept him alive. But in Sakura's route, Shirou becomes more than just the blade that was forged on that day of fire by Kerry. Shirou does not have to accept that he may be powerless like in Fate, or that he will never truly get what he works towards like in UBW. Shirou didn't know how to become a hero in the other routes, but in HF he learns that he can be Sakura's hero.

Some of it is waifu wars, which can attract lots of shit posters. Second are the purists who don't like the more "mature" themes HF deals with. Abuse, rape, and neglect are not things you put in your waifu porn games, as these are not issues you can solve by stabbing Kotomine Kirei in the chest with the Azoth Dagger. Third can be the people who dislike characters who have had sex in their porn games with anyone who is not your self insert. Fourth can be people who dislike the decisions Shirou makes because they feel like Garcher is the best route. Fifth are general shit posters, that smell blood in the water and come circling. Either dislike the series and want to fuck with you or they like the series and want to fuck with you.

You could genuinely prefer other girls over Sakura, you could shit on the other girls jokingly and no one would really rage. You could generally prefer Shonen Shirou over Seinen Shirou and that'd be okay. Fate has been bloated to all hell, so why have a complex character when gatcha has twenty new summer swimsuit outfits to draw doujins about?

Shitposters really suck though. Fate threads have so much to talk about, I used to love talking with anons and finding out all the other shit that was happening in the background like Solomon still being immortal trapped in a tree, and thus not able to be summoned. There's so much content in Fate to discuss that constantly posting that you hate a character is a waste of time.

I dislike Sakura because she's boring as fuck and her sob story is too ridiculous to take seriously. Like I don't hate her but she's the heroine I liked the less for sure. HF made me want to save Illya instead of her.

Nah. He just breaks and gets reforged into a different blade in HF. He's not fundamentally all that different. At his core, he's still the same person in all three routes.

Some people look at HF and they applaud Shirou for "living for himself" or "no longer being a machine". These are both factually incorrect. He still isn't living for himself. He's living for Sakura. He's a machine whose previous programming got corrupted and had to have it rewritten. He's a machine who exists not to save "others" but to save "Sakura". The machine is still a machine. It just broke and had to be rebuilt, that's all.

The end result of Heaven's Feel is simply that Shirou had his previous function violently gouged out and received a new function that's easier to fulfill than the previous. But the actual O.S. is still the same. He's still someone who can't live for himself. He can't gain happiness for himself. But since he needs to be happy in order to make Sakura happy, because he needs to become happy to justify the sacrifices he made, he has no choice but to pursue it.

Shirou still isn't human. He's a machine pretending to be one. That will never change no matter what. What he lost in that fire will never return.
