Any electricians on here? Do you need to be good at math to succeed in this trade? I am 26 with a masters degree in a worthless field sadly, and even more worthless in todays climate. (Hotel and hospitality/sport management). I was thinking about getting into a trade to make money because i cant make shit with what I have and am still living at home with my mom. I need to start making money so I can help provide for her and my future family. Any tips for someone wanting to become one? I currently have 0 knowledge of electric stuff or trades in general because I never had a dad, but I am trying.

>Do you need to be good at math to succeed in this trade?
no not at all, almost all electricians are slave class hispanics, which have an IQ of ~85. if youre not retarded by white person standards then becoming an electrician is pretty easy
ty for the advice
Algebra and some very basic trigonometry. That's about it
electrician here. You need math. Join the IBEW
never seen a mexican electrician in the 10 years I've been around trades. they do all the roofing, drywall & framing. to a lesser extent plumbing and hvac
Me neither, met a couple asian ones though.
Not a bad move. Dummies just wire houses, but industrial/commercial requires more intelligence. Math is just basic algebra typically, reading ability is more critical. How lucrative it will be depends on what state you live in. A state that requires more training will pay better.
Fuck the union
Okay, im sadly really bad at math. Took me 3 years to get through Algebra 1 in highschool. I even have a master's now and im still dogshit at math.
Never even seen a trigonometry question in my life lol
Minnesota journeyman is about $45 an hour
Youre prob too stupid to get the hang of it lets be honest,
I'd say go into roofing
Tradesman here. Electrical is a good track but you need to pay attention to where the money is and join a company where you can make big bucks. Don't get stuck running wire for 20 bucks an hour. Be prepared to jump ship to a good company and look for management opportunities. Willingness to travel is huge.
Well i was looking for a trade that wasnt terribly hard on the body because im kinda made like shit. I am willing to move anywhere in the country so i can afford a place to live, because right now, i cannot afford to live on my own.
Electricians are retards its a insanely easy job, the meters do all the work just need to learn how to use them and amp clamps
Electricity is very simple user, there are many two year vocational schools that will have you making 30$ an hour starting in no time.
fuck you nigger
we need more based white men
you can figure it out
Wow really? Thats insane that spent all these years in regular college for a masters thats worthless. Atleast im not in any debt lol
The entire job can be summed up as getting wires from point A to point B. A retard can do it
prepare your caffeine addiction and or alchohol/other substances
I took a plumbing pre-apprenticeship and my teacher said he's seen kids in the electrician program drop out because of the math, take that as you will
Only listen to the guys who aren’t digging the trade, being in electrics and being an electrician are not synonymous, there are many career paths that open up once you know how to read a circuit diagram.
this is all you need to be an electrician
Literally fucking this
I know an electrician and he complains about the toll on his body.
Electricity does involve a surprising amount of math.
And a calculating mistake can mean death.
Look into plumbing. You'll make just as much, work is always available, it's not as dangerous and doesn't involve math. Also check out dyscalculia - it's like dyslexia but with numbers.
and carpeting/flooring and.. painting.
>You need math
your hole
Amps = Watts / Voltage
and good is 98% of all the 'math' you'll ever need
how so?
thanks for the input
I just know thats pretty rough on the body too
Apprentice electrician here, not a yank but the only maths I've ever really used was in off-the-job training. Never really used it much in the field, only some basics. Nothing you can't pick up with a bit of study.
A worthwhile trade but definitely has its downsides. Physical exhaustion and burnout are real, I'm 24 now but no way I could keep this shit up for the rest or my days. Gotta get off the tools at some stage.
what is impedance? How do you calculate peak voltage? what about out of sync waves? mechanical vs electrical polarity, etc. there's more to it than that. we're not putting resistors in series with a LED on a breadboard
>what about out of sync waves?
he'll be wiring fucking kitchens all day, not surfboarding you over-complicated faggot.
>he only maths I've ever really used was in off-the-job training. Never really used it much in the field
exactly. 3 wire colors to member, A = W/V - youre good for 90%+ of your life, amiright?
>of course I am
\
not true. at least you need more than that to pass school
