what went wrong?
Samurai 8
everything
Nothing. It was just the underdog and everyone was against it and in the end it couldn't survive all the undeserved hate it was getting.
Kishi didn't have a editor with enough balls to help him write the story and refine it. The artist struggled with shading to make the panels look better and have the characters stand out from the background more. Seriously the designs were neat, but a lot of the panels were hard to parse and take in. Story was also very weirdly fast paced from boy becomes samurai and looks to find himself to galactic threat
As someone summarized it in another thread, you can't make a series good just by telling the readers that it's good.
>It was just the underdog
Yeah, everyone beat up on the poor little massively sucessful author whose new series was being heavily promoted for months in the most well known shounen manga magazine. All of his legions of fans from his previous work turned their backs on him without giving it a real chance. And when the poor little guy tried to tell people they just need to blindly throw some more money at him by buying a few more volumes worth of the series and eventually they would like it people mocked his words unfairly.
He was just the underdog in this market and his series was never given a chance or a leg up from the publisher.
mc look too bland
Interesting original idea. Bad execution. Very meh arts.
Seishi was the superior Kishimoto anyway. And lost of his worked got canned.
It's pretty funny this shit got more threads during its final month than it ever did in its whole lifetime, from shitposters and fanboys alike.
Prior to that nobody even gave a shit about it and any threads about it died with less than 50 replies.
what went right?
>seishi
Didn't his last manga glorified the death penalty and got axed? And he also tried a weird seinen with lewd girls.
Him living in his brother shadow fucked his career.
A lot. But samurai Ann still is pretty cute.
... I remember reading back when announced it was gonna have an anime... Yeah no.
making the mc look like some basedboy faggot
>The artist struggled with shading to make the panels look better and have the characters stand out from the background more. Seriously the designs were neat, but a lot of the panels were hard to parse and take in.
This was the exact reason I dropped it, so many pages were just a strain on the eyes to look at.
Not sure about the senien you are mentioning, but you are completely correct about the death penalty stuff. Basically Kishi's twin is Sasuke and an absolute edgelord and it shows in his work. Altough the fuck ton of hate mail the guy received about satan666 becuase his brother wrote Naruto and they would only naturally share the same background and style having grownup together would probably contribute to that. Seriously some of the author's notes that fan translators included about Seishi's work hurt a bit to see him having to explain that they were brothers and to stop sending him death threats because their stuff was similar because they were brothers
I actually like Seishi. He has good ideas even if he often has to rush his stories or get confused at the end. And he's a better artist than his brother.
Him and Masashi actually working together could do something good. But it probably won't happen. I hope they still have good terms.
Kishimoto didn't have a wrangler this time.
No one like chewing squid that long
It wasnt interesting
This series is evidence that Hiroyuki Nakano needs to be fired. Any competent editor given the chapter 1 manuscript would have thrown it into the dustbin and told Kishi to go find a better artist to work with.
Well, people are still chewing boruto so..
I would love to see the kishi-brothers work on something together and just see what comes out of it. Especially if each one gets one character that's is only theirs. Pretty sure they are published by different magazines so it's near impossible
He looked pretty cool after they finally fucked off to space, then it got axed
Boruto at least got a little better in time. Both storywise and artwise.
>Literally has aliens using people like flash drives
They’re still chewing because it’s based
Who know that less kishi mean less shity
Seishi often change magazines and is more of a wildcard... Or maybe he gets fired each time after a axe.
But Masashi likely will stay in Shonen jump... He should revive his old oneshot Mario imo.
>Ann became a samurai
I wasn't expecting this, that looks neat. Too bad it ended this soon.
Kishi has nothing to do with Boruto though. I think he at most approves some stuff for the anime
We don't chew it, we just swallow it.
I honetly shudder to think about what the first chapter looked like before it passed through editing.
What went right? I honestly can't think of a single thing that was good about this.
too chewy
>underdog
Yeah people need to chew it more. It would get good after 10 volumes or so.
>author with an ego fails and is forced to think critically about how they created something successful to begin with
So it went right.
Why did Kishimoto's fans betray him when he needed them the most?
Spoiler: there was no editing. From the editor interview
>He dared to take on something difficult and step up to the challenge. To tell the truth, it would be much easier for him to draw an easy to understand setting such as in NARUTO, but that wouldn’t be a challenge for him.
>I have a gut feeling that Masashi Kishimoto is the type of mangaka who can create an extraordinary work every time
>The biggest appeal of Kishimoto-sensei is his confidence to do what he wants without hesitation. Where other people would hesitate, he’s the type that goes straight ahead.
>I want him to go full throttle with "Samurai 8" as well. I would like him to stimulate the industry, rather than staying quiet. I really want him to use his many talents to set off an explosion in the industry.
The only thing this guy did was sucking Kishi's dick.
