When did you realize these were the only good anime ever made? Practically everything else is a waste of time and energy spent on mediocrity.
When did you realize these were the only good anime ever made...
kek
You could say the same thing for every other medium too, so what’s the point?
There are over a thousand good books and films though.
there are way more books and films than anime full stop. you have to compare ratios
The overarching point still stands. The vast majority of media is shit, and it's unreasonable to assume people can:
>tell the difference
>actively seek out the good media
you forgot lucky star man
You know, when you want to make your bait at least somewhat credible, don't use the most thinly veiled recommendation chart you can find. And get rid of the Yuasa shit ("ugly therefore good"), the MAL/redditcore ("popular therefore good") and all those "babby's first deep anime" candidates ("symbolism therefore good").
when did you guys realize that the stuff you see on anime recommendation charts is no better than seasonal trash? I got fooled for years before I realized I was better off picking anime at random than following these recommendation charts.
If you can't tell the difference why bother looking at good stuff just watch anything
>I got fooled for years before I realized I was better off picking anime at random than following these recommendation charts.
Really? Why? Did you really think people who spend their time making and posting rec charts are some kind of authority on the quality of things?
You might be more retarded than OP
Hey, I'm just trying to help him out. Maybe we'll get a bait thread that's actually worth that name next time!
Not everything you enjoy has to be the most groundbreaking artistic shit of all time. Zig Forums often has this teenage attitude that you have to show everyone how elite your taste is by consuming only things that are critically acclaimed and deep cut, and you're a pleb if you enjoy just like, regular ass entertainment sometimes. You see this on a lot of the other hobby/interest boards, especially Zig Forums. But the truth is, people who only watch things that have been hyped up as the greatest and most influential works in any medium have some of the most boring taste. When you post a chart like that, all I can tell about your personality is "I am the type of person who selectively enjoys only works that have been vetted by other people on Zig Forums as kino". It's the equivalent of like, if you only ate ten different meals that chefs decided tasted the best. Like, your taste is good by one metric, but it's still boring as shit.
>things that are critically acclaimed
More like "popularity acclaimed" in the case of anime. There are no professional anime critics. Only e-celebs and communities. None of which have any background in writing or filmmaking or animation or any other qualification to evaluate anime on a technical level. It basically boils down of following the taste of the stupid masses.
That's like saying you only drove sports cars and know everything there is to know about automobiles.
Yeah I did, I assumed the only people who would spend their time making this sort of thing were expert critics with vast anime experience and the cognitive ability to discern quality. And when I saw the consistency between charts I figured that meant that experts ended up with the same conclusions, making them seem more reliable. Now I know that's wrong, but now I don't understand why these charts exist in the first place.
True, which is another reason why outsourcing your taste to the internet's opinion is dumb.
not like "professional" means anything, just look at professional video game critics
Pretty agreeable but Paprika is shit.
But there are people who treat anime as their main media of choice, which is inherently counterproductive unlike other art forms that can be consumed and studied for a lifetime.
If you've been to other boards you would know the general taste has been mostly plebbed down and individualized (except /lit/).
>just look at professional video game critics
Those aren't "professionals" either.
I'm talking about literature critics, with a background in writing or a theoretical literature degree, theatre ciritcs who have similar background and years of experience or film critics who have studied film. Vidya and anime outlets do not offer any substancial ciritcism of that kind because they lack those qualifications. All they can provide is a subjective evaluation on the sole grounds of how much the reviewer liked something.
Add this op
sorry user but anime is only good if it has giant robots
>i'm 16 and anime is so deep starter pack
kill yourself newfagq
>but now I don't understand why these charts exist in the first place.
It's a mix of gatekeeping (not letting people experience the medium in their own way) and doing what OP is doing: Pretending that he has access to some higher truths, basically what cult leaders and religious figures do to reach exalted positions amongst their followers. Of course, the latter makes not much sense on an anonymous image board. But that won't stop egomaniacs.
pretty sure a game design degree makes you a professional even if you're a hack
>a game design degree
Hahaha ... no.
I've never watched Evangelion but I know the show like the back of my hand because every anime community never shuts up about it
doga koboshit is legitimately more enjoyable than everything on that list.
Are you saying stuff can't be critiqued objectively without a degree?
It may have changed over the years. I haven't really visited any of the interest type boards frequently in the past little while besides Zig Forums. I will say it seemed like there was a lot less canonical elitism on Zig Forums the last time I checked it out compared to how it was when I was like 14. /lit/ might be somewhat protected from this phenomenon just because the literary canon of shit that is considered worth reading has been established for a lot longer than other mediums and tends to be based on actual scholarship and criticism, and also because the kinds of people who read literature for recreation are just less likely to be plebs. It's pretty easy to pick out the teenagers on /lit/ though. Not everybody has any clue what the fuck they're talking about.
Watch it. It's solid. Neither as good nor as bad as people tell you. But that's the point.
So, only pretentious garbage is good now?
