Yeah, same here. They were foreshadowing it so much for so long that I thought "surely it's a fakeout and everything will be just fine". I was kind of in denial and didn't know what to feel, and it wasn't until the teacher actually said it that I realized it was really happening.

This is the point the author ruined his series. You at least take your friggin main team at least one or two rounds in in a tournament before staarting another circle, not have lose to lame ass first opponents, geez. This literally killed the series and it could never recover from it.

Sora lying to his dying mom about winning the match was so damn sad.

Not really. She does briefly "date" someone she met at a mixer, but eventually goes back to focusing on basketball. Its not technically NTR since no real romance happens between the two until way after that.

There was also literally no point in them losing that match, they could've gotten btfo easily next round

Nah, I can kind of get the point of it. They worked a bit of effort too late, and then just get absolutely dumped on. Not just losing the game, but also Sora's mom dying, and then burning down their club, and probably whatever punishment next episode. And then everything can only go up from there.

On the flip side you could argue that should a bunch of delinquents and 2-4 talented players (Kite/Twins/Shrimp) beat a fully functional basketball team in the first round? I get your point though.

Moreso when you the delinquents started out not even knowing how to play the game, and most of the rest of the team not having played competitively in either a long time or ever. With only one month of genuine training.
