I wish more shounens didn't just ignore the real world aspects of balance of power.
I mean stuff like the hierarchy of
Guns>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>melee weapons>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>unarmed with martial arts training>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>unarmed with training but - 10 kg of mass or 10 cm of height etc etc.
Do we really have to abandon all IRL logic? Being grounded in reality makes stuff so much more interesting to me, and makes stakes feel higher. You don't have to cut bullets mid-air for the viewer to know that you're a good swordsman.

One piece already does that
Zoro literally cuts canonballs mid-air
>You don't have to cut bullets mid-air for the viewer to know that you're a good swordsman.
most people don't know how to portray a good swordsman outside of that or giving multiple swords or even using in weird ways like carrying a sword in your mouth or feet
Of giving them BFS
It sounds like you want to read crime drama manga instead of battle shounenshit.
Kenshin actually does a good job of not crossing the line to retarded land. Villain having a millitary battleship is a huge deal and I don't think they ever cut a bullet (unless I forgot).
You chose the wrong picture for this thread, Stands are consistently stronger than guns. Most combat stands can deflect bullets or produce a railgun effect better than conventional weaponry by simply throwing objects.
He blocks a bullet with a hilt and cuts a cannonball in half.

In part 7 there are next to no ghosts s oguns are again a big deal
Maybe I do. I dunno, I'm after battles after all, and it's not like I don't like shounens, it's just that power creeps can get awful, meanwhile I was watching Ashita no Joe and a dude learning to put uo a guard and do footwork felt more epic then Goku beating God of the Universe or whatever
Yeah but it gives a new power where you throw stuff and they are way more destructive than guns
That's still not so bad imho. Retarded but still more possible then most shounen feats.
Yes but Jojo doesn't pretend guns don't exist just toaintain balance. They're used on several occasions. Shovels too.
Johnny got shot 100 times and survived. They have meat spray and zombie string.
>cuts a cannonball in half.
If people could use magic techniques (stands, nen, devil fruit powers, jutsu, quirks, grimoires, bankai, etc) guns wouldn't be very useful. Magic techniques are extremely easy to conceal compared to a gun because you don't have to carry anything with you but you can still kill someone almost instantly.
>guns wouldn't be very useful
I disagree. Having a concealed gun on you would could change the outcome of the battle if used at the right moment.
Read a soft seinen then. Shonens are just excuses for superpower fights.
kurapika carries a gun.
I read hxh. It's a shouenen and it literally has only one fight when IRL weapons matter and it's a nuke. Not a good example of what I'm looking for. Kino moment though.
This. It helps that characters in Jojo are all glass cannons.
Most fights wouldn't really be battles though. It would just be assassinations/murders.
James Bond manages to have fights. No excuses.
A master marial artist can take out somebody unskilled with a melee weapon though.
He shouldn't try if he has another option though.
I mean, if he has a gun or is carrying a sword with him sure.
Altough swords in general are fucking overrated. Spears are the weapon for basically all of history.
The thing is that if you're not good enough to be able to outfight a guy with a gun there's no point in using your special fighting skill outside of regulated competitions. Non-sports manga that feature swordfighters don't follow real world power balance because in the real world the swordfighter wouldn't bring his sword to anything other than a fencing match.
>hxh
>soft seinen
Don't kid yourself.
>Altough swords in general are fucking overrated
I agree, especially japanese swords. Pretty much every medieval european country produced better swords then meme katanas.
If the guy skilled with a sword also carries a pistol he can manage in both long and short distance combat. Or he could be sneaky and not let anyone target him from afar.
>Or he could be sneaky and not let anyone target him from afar.
One Piece literally has gunmen whose entire fighting style is basically this. But they're always backup to the melee fighters because otherwise there'd be little point in the melee fighters.
Ashita no Joe's "power scaling" is fucking garbage though.
