Nagato is more like Naruto than Sasuke (this is acknowledged in the story with both Naruto and Nagato self-inserting into Tales of a Gutsy Shinobi). Additionally, this is a stretch at best.

I wish. The whole point of early naruto was that he wasn't talented, everyone hated him, he had to act out for attention and use superior tactics to defeat his stronger opponents (Zabuza, Neji). The whole series really went off the rails after the pain arc. Naruto got way too strong so kishi ran out of ideas for good villains.

It's ironic that this is being stated by a person who can't write, but, to get to the point, Naruto fighting evil versions of himself is the most interesting part of the series.
Without that, you're left with villains like Deidara, Kakuzu, fucking Orochimaru, who are all interesting in their own right (except Kakuzu), but they don't add to Naruto.
Naruto's confrontation with Gaara, Pain and Obito all added to his character, and those confrontations were the interesting part of the story.
This complaint also comes from people who don't like Sasuke as well, and I'd like to point out, he's the most interesting character in the story. He's probably one of the more unique rivals/antagonists in Jump period, as his philosophy and strength develops parallel and at odds to the main characters throughout the entire course of the story, and his path is genuinely interesting for what starts as a generic revenge story.

Yeah, but the complaint was the 'dynamic', and Gaara doesn't have a dynamic with anybody, that's his character, that's why he's the way he is.

It's not lazy because that's what Kishimoto wanted to write. It's his fucking story, he wanted the main character to have meaningful conflict with people, who were like him and went down a bad path Naruto could easily go down, and have Naruto challenge and disprove them.
Calling it lazy because Naruto has antagonists who parallel him is a fucking lazy criticism you took from that awful youtube video that every retard here has seen.

Naruto isn't truly an underdog story in the slightest, but the reason he defeated Neji with just one punch after getting wrecked he entire shitty fight was to prove him wrong about destiny only for everyone to eventually discover he always had a grand purpose to change the world and defeat Indra, who was going to do things on his own in the worst kind of way as Sasuke. If he wasn't able to bring everyone together, even the Bijuu, as the reincarnation of Asura, everything would have been fucked by Pain (Kakashi is vital to defeat Obito and Kaguya), Madara or Sasuke and the 5 villages might have never come to peace and immediately attacked the others while licking wounds. Neji might as well be from fucking Berserk where everyone but Guts is hopelessly following CAUSALITY whether they do anything or not at all.
