What could they even explore in the third season? The whole world was already at peace and making another world war break out would just be invalidating the events of the previous seasons.

The reason the elevens loved this series was for different reasons than the the western fans. They are literally just in it for the waifus. The amazing ending that we originally got? Paltry in comparison to having waifus to merchandise. People liked shirley? Let's bring her back. In order to have her be a major player rather than just a hapless damsel in distress? No, so we can merchandise her. Great. Now for the story, should it make any sense or be enjoyable? Who gives a shit just make C.C smile at the end so we can sell new unique "smiling c.c" figures.

I'm honestly still confused by the film going with CC. I was never into the ship wars but back when I watched it and the audio dramas it seemed abundantly clear Shirley was the girl he was in love with, Kallen he loved platonically as one of his only friends, and CC was his partner in crime he also loved platonically.
I literally never got the feeling he was into her that way besides getting flustered by some innuendo or her skimpy clothes, which isn't unique to her.
