How about a cozy retro thread to celebrate the weekend. What have you been watching recently? Seen any hidden gems? Currently watching the original Gatchaman. Will probably follow that up with Vampire Princess Miyu
Pre-2000s anime
anyone?
The only pre-2000s anime I've seen recently have been so dreadful there's nothing worth saying about them.
>I'm watching [one of the usual 20 or 30 pre-2000 anime shows everyone worships]"
>"[one of the usual 20 or 30 pre-2000 anime shows everyone worships] is so good, great taste bro"
>Man, [trashy, hyperviolent and full of sexual content OVA / movie that even back during the 90s was considered shit] had so much SOUL
>Man, [Boring, generic TV show that even back during the 90s was considered unremarkable and uninteresting] had so much SOUL
>[Post discussing a Post-2000 show; the user is using a bullshit excuse, usually "this show is totally like the classics"]
>What went wrong? [cherrypicked image comparing high budget movies and OVA made during Japan's economic bubble vs low budget TV shows made during the lost decade]
Here, the next 500 posts in a nutshell. I knew you would start bumping your thread yourself if it didn't get any posts before it goes to page 10
watching gundam wing mutha-fuckkaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Let's talk about how tezuka was btfo by based adum from popular YouTube channel yourmoviesucks
Were they as dreadful as Tekkaman Blade II? I fucking regret watching it
You should include your post in the greentext because this is not the first time you've posted this. In fact, not only is not the first time you posted this but it wasn't even completely accurate the first time you said it. All we need is the other guy who complains about the "5 shows being discussed over and over" and it will truly be a repeat thread.
Rent free nigga.
>Tekkaman
I watched the series from the 70's. Someone from these threads said the Lupin voice actor was in it so I watched it. It's pretty psychedelic but was a pretty standard formulaic superhero type children's show.
Low effort. Nothing wrong with those posts.
Zig Forums has worse threads.
Someone took the time to make this. Alright I'm going to go to a previous thread and screenshot a random section of the posts to prove my point at how utterly pointless this is. It's cherrypicking.
Those threads aren't shitty generals
These threads are shit but at least they aren't shounenshit / koreanshit / or some other bullshit that doesn't belong on Zig Forums.
So in any case I'm watching an early 2000s show but don't worry it's totally like the classics, you should all check it out.
and what are you adding to improve upon them? Exactly. A thread is only as good as the people who take part in it. If you have some whiny underage kid doing nothing but crying in a thread that they willingly chose to take part in, it will effect the quality of the thread itself. Stay on-topic user or just leave if it bothers you so much.
literally who
Looks like I was fooled, pokemon did NOT in fact use cels for as long as some people have said.
I don't have the ability to see the difference between cel and digital, so I'd be impossible for me to confirm myself.
I've been looking through the archive for newer cel anime, and someone explained that.
Sad to be honest. All the oldfags are gone so only the ironic kids post in those threads.
Are you actually responding to your own post? Surely no one is this retarded to reply to bait.
When did they stop using cel?
collage guy here. I have a bunch of new ones but I'm working on one eight now so once I'm finished I'll share. It might take 45 minutes to an hour so if you keep the thread active until then, It should be ready.
That thread is pretty shit.
The TV show had its last cel animated episode air on August 8th, 2002.
Movies and shorts supposedly had a bit on and off but I didn't bother to read what they explained too carefully. Seems it was just a fake rumour that Manaphy was cel, due to a weird colour choice. But according to the post the Advance movies were digital then they went cel for a bit again or something? Idk. And one of the shorts was cel?
I'm not really an expert.
I've found 4 anime that, according to Zig Forums, began in 2001 and were cel animated, so far.
>Noir
2001, April 6th - 2001, September 28th
>Galaxy Angel
2001, April 8th - 2001, September 30th
>Mahoromatic
2001, October 5th - 2001, December 28th
>Mazinkaiser (OVA)
2001, September 25th - 2002, September 20th
This is just according to people on Zig Forums, and the dates are from MAL. It's not a list of all anime either, there could be more that I don't know about. And for all I know they could possibly've switched partway through production.
The list only includes anime that began in 2001, many more began before 2001 and kept cels into 2001 and possibly beyond.
But out of these 4, Mahoromatic was the last to began airing, but Mazinkaiser kept at it for longer. IF Zig Forums is right.
I'm currently reading Asatte Dance with has been a lot of fun. I just finished Yokohama Kaidashi Kikkou which I can't believe I haven't read until now. I'm going to watch the OVA of it soon too.
>The TV show had its last cel animated episode air on August 8th, 2002.
Okay so they stopped after I had already stopped caring. Practically everything after the indigo league is where I lost interest. I watched a little bit after Misty was no longer apart of the main cast but it wasn't quite as good or soulful.
Like clockwork
Figure 17 (May 2001 - May 2002) is cel. The interview with the creator basically confirms they mixed 35mm with CGI elements as needed. Much like Mazinkaiser with its effects, which is probably 35mm as well since it's an OVA. Noir is confirmed to be 35mm as well.
Going off this list: fandompost.vbulletin.net
Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection (OVA; December 2001) seems to have been done in cel which would make it later than Mahoromatic.
It's only 2 episodes? What studio made it? Don't really recognize the director's work aside some animation he did on Galaxy Express and Don Dracula.
A lot of anime from that transitional era from cel to digital looks like shit. If you try watching Baki the Gappler or SCryd, they look awful but that was after the 2000's so it don't matter.
Neither of those were done on cel so I'm not sure how that's relevant to the discussion. Scryed Blu-ray looks especially shit because it got a QTec upscale.
Forgot Shingu (May 2001 - December 2001) also. There's also GaoGaiGar FINAL (January 2000 - March 2003) & GGG (April 2005 - June 2005) which were at least partially done on cel according to that thread.
