>Pick up a cute slice of life manga
>Has a sexy mature waifu
>She dies in the first quarter of the story
>Rest of the series is a cute, wholesome isekai story of a cheating MC and his family of lolis
Why do I even bother with this genre?
Isekai is the culmination of all the worst traits of Japanese writing
Yeah, it's totally the genre's fault, not hack authors'
Nah, it's not isekai genre at fault. LN industry itself is just dead.
To think that it was founded by the effort of Haruhi, Monogatari, Durarara, Bakano, and Shana. If it's an LN adaptation, it's a red flag
Why Isekai attracts hack authors?
That's why it's the culmination thereof. The authors all flock to it because it's become the easy formula to making money, like pulp detective novels of the 30s or cheap, trashy fantasy novels of the 70s.
Wasn't Zero no Tsukaima also a big influence on the light novel genre though? The ur-isekai, as it were?
I'm sure there are Japanese For Dummy books on how to write a formulaic isekai story that they all use.
Is that a dress, or a pants leg?
They are not following a formula, they are trying to convert their JRPG playthrough into written form and other JRPG-playing Japs eat that shit up
No they don't.
Don't let your echo chamber represent the overwhelming majority of people who can recognize bad shit.
Playthrough-based fantasy LNs have been a thing since Wizardry and D&D were imported. It's how we got Slayers and Record of the Lodoss War, and how some of Type-Moons stuff got started. It's not the same as isekai.
isekai is literary shorthand,
>i cant think of a reason why the mc wouldnt know this shit or would start their story now so ill use isekai
its not inherently bad but people who cant write are drawn to it to help get their shit off the ground
What is the series you're talking about?
Is there a better genre than reverse isekai?
You make it sound like a bad thing to be successful and practical instead of some contrarian snowflake that only wants recognition for being different.
NOOOOOOO DON’T WRITE BASED MCS AND GIRLS EWWWW YUCKY GIRLS
Probably Maou-sama no Machizukuri, since the manga is in the early stages. Actually in the webnovel she doesn't die. She gets her life extended.
Sauce?
OP said it was an isekai, Maou-sama is not an isekai
why creating a cultural exchange program for isekai people who'd destroy the world just by walking around?
>calling creativity snowflake :^)
It's okay, she lives. But she gets bleached.
It IS bad shit but not for the reason you think
It depends on what kind of person the author is and their level of skill in writing, it's just that JRPGs attract a lot of uninspired hacks
:^)
It's not a meme when you're the only one posting it.
He wasn't he was calling contrarians snowflakes
All Japanese authors are uninspired hacks though.
pyw
No
I haven't seen this posted in so long, holy shit. Where's the meat follow-up?
Well he's not wrong, creatives are snowflakes (but not vice versa) by virtue of their originality.
The correct takeaway is that being a snowflake is not necessarily bad.
