They were a worthless plot point that would only have been useful to the Yakuza in their money scheme, not the LoV, because hitting heroes with actual bullets and killing them is in every way an upgrade for their specific agenda.

The heroes had enough time to evacuate a whole city. If a student was a traitor, then the villains would have known something was up. That page also clearly has All Might say none of the kids is a traitor.
