How the fuck did this get 124 episodes? Who was even the target demographic?

>How the fuck did this get 124 episodes?
The manga was very popular.
>Who was even the target demographic?
Is this your first 80s anime? Like 3/4 of anime back then was this genre.

Considering it's one of my all-time favorite shows, I'd say the target demographic is me.

>it's one of my all-time favorite shows
Elaborate.

Back then shows were long and slow. Many have the approach many know due to Dragon Ball where script writers would have to take a whole episode out of a single page or something like that to milk the hell out of it. You can see a similar vibe on the current Hokuto no Ken thread.

I remember watching this show and the fucking boat never getting to the fucking destination. Or people searching for someone else and just taking forever. Annoying as hell. Most likely the manga is much better.

It’s interesting to see how Urasawa got his start.

WERE ARE THE TRANSLATIONS FOR THE MANGA!?

I'm tempted to watch just cause the girl looks so cute and the animation is nice.

>Who was even the target demographic?
>Yawara
>ran in Big Comic Spirits
>Seinen magazine

I thought Happy! was better, but Urasawa has never done a bad series.

just don't
animation was pretty standard for the time.

The anime is a faithful adaptation for the most part and you should never read the manga tbqh, the anime is iconic and Yawara was Japan's 80s sweetheart, her popularity caused a judo boom at the time.

>you should never read the manga
Why?

Nipponjin

everyone that reads it dies

Like I said the anime is iconic, Minaguchi Yuko's voice acting brings life and soul to Yawara, it shouldn't be missed out on imho.

Matsuda's voice annoys the hell out of me.

The general public. Yawara was incredibly popular at the time. It was aired on prime time on broadcast TV alongside Ranma and got better ratings. Only reason Ranma's more known at least in the west is due to Ranma being one of the original big hits among western ancientfags.

Definitely enjoyable. Some of the greatest OPs and EDs of all time too. I really love the art, the colors and backgrounds too. The whole thing is like the distilled mood of late bubble era Japan.

Yeah, there's a reason Japan's most famous female judoka was straight up given the nickname Yawara.

Minaguchi's "mou!" is the sound dreams are made of.

I wish we had more judo anime

I'm not gonna try and start a retarded genre debate, but I kinda doubt that Yawara's main audience ended up being adult males in their late teens to early 30s.
I've seen some people put the series at 30 million volume sales (though I've never seen a source) and I'm willing to bet a good chunk of buyers we're female.

It's 124. That's too much Judo already.

Except there is way more melodrama and nothing happening than judo.

Kinda suck the Japan irl didn’t win the first judo Olympic so the anime ended up kinda weird with how they move the date for her entering the Olympia and winning four years later than it was suppose to be. When I watched it, I was like “what the fuck? Did I get the years wrong? Why is there a timeskip if four years?” After a little research , I realized why but it is still kinda weird.

"muh tomboy" retards

MIRACLE GIRL

>Yawara
>Tomboy
Retarded zoomer.

this is the true cozy anime

I assume you mean women's judo because the first judo events were the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and they won almost all the events. Same year Japan won women's volleyball which was the inspiration for Attack No. 1.

Segata Senshiro would like a word with you nigga as he Judo throws your bad taste ass to hell
That's what I fucking hate about some series. Instead of the core concept that might interest you to the plot we just get melodrama bullshit ad nauseum

Jesus Christ Nips? Imagine every time every country in the world won at least a bronze medal in the Olympics in an event so that's the catalyst for a weebshit series in their nation we'd be full up to our asses in sports toons?
