Why didn't someone just kill him?
Why didn't someone just kill him?

If you read the manga you'd know that people including Kaiba tried that.
ive only seen the anime
They did try to kill him, several times.
All the people in pic related were trying to kill him.
You're missing out
whats the context here?
People don't believe them when I tell them about the lunatic shit yugioh pulled in the early manga. Shit is awesome.
Just one of the many deathraps Kaiba made for Yugi and the gang. In this one, Jonouchi is trapped in a pit filled with oil, weapons, and a serial killer.
that's the focal point of the series.
Kaiba kidnaps Yugi's grandpa and sets up an amusement park of death called Death-T and challenged him to it.
Read the manga by VIZ(first 7 volumes for the pre-Duel Monsters stuff) and season 0(the first anime series loosely based on those first 7 volumes by Toei).
It's epic shit, moreso the manga but the toei anime has a god-tier cast with Megumi Ogata as Yugi/Yami.

Arguably the only deathtrap.
I can't remember any other, although he was a dick threatening to kill himself if Yami beats him in Pegasus arc.
so why didnt they just shoot him? instead of going through some insanely elaborate deathtrap
Good villains don't just shoot their rival dum dum
Read the shit and it makes sense.
Most "villains" don't know about Yami and the ones that do like Kaiba want to beat him at a game.
bad?
The first volumes of the manga are amazing
I love the card games as well but the manga was a lot more fun and creative before magic & wizards
First 7 Volumes you mean?
It's not just the shift to the card games that was the only change. Yami got rewritten completely too to be a generic shonen hero as soon as Duelist Kingdom and he's so insufferable.
Pic related, god I fucking hate it. Last time..like maybe a year ago, I tried to re-read the entire manga(because all in all I liked the whole manga back in the day even if the card shit was inferior) and I just couldn't do it as soon as I got to DK arc.
the last time someone tried to threaten Yugi with a gun Yami forced the guy to immolate himself in public
Still not as cool as Kaiba blocking a gun with his card.
Somebody post the gif/webm.
have a reaction image instead
Perfection.
Somebody should photoshop BEWD in there.
Kill Jesus himself? Not happening.
If villains realized they could just shoot the protags to death, stories would either end insanely quickly due to protag death or every protag would have to be bullet proof
The way the series is written though it never feels unbelievable.
The bad guys are often arrogant and dumb. Like that guy in chapter 4 who is about to shoot Yami but is so confident that he won that Yami tricks him into thinking that he's lighting his cigarette and drops the lighter in his hand.
The way the narrative frames it is that most of these villains are generic mooks who of course don't know who they're dealing with and even though Yami tells them every time they rightfully assume he's full of shit so they don't take him seriously.
AND EVEN THEN Yami has actual magical powers with the Puzzle so even if they get pissed off after losing to him by that point it's too late since they're already mindraped.
Guys like Kaiba obviously weren't normal so of course he would make Death-T and test Yugi.
Dude even psychologically tortures his own brother with the Solid Vision Hologram thing for losing to Yugi.
Remember what happened when Bandit Keith tried to kill Pegasus in the manga?
He's already dead... Atem died 3000 years ago and is now a disembodied spirit haunting a bling made of solid gold and the blood, flesh, and bones of innocent people. Now Yugi himself, yeah why didn't they just murder that bastard?
Kaiba would NEVER use his cardfu to block the hammer of a gun.
Is the new anime worth watching?
are any of the sequels?
GX and 5D's are good.
Zexal starts awfully, but absolutely pics up in ZeXal II.Anything onwards is dog shit.
Any of the manga worth reading past the initial manga run? I really loved the whole thing.
