Honestly what confounds me is why he didn't end up with Sakura.
Sasuke clearly didn't have any warm feelings towards sakura. He maybe thought she was a decent teammate once, but clearly stopped giving a damn when he defected. At least with Naruto he had this 'rivals bound by fate' thing still going on.
Meanwhile Lee always cared for Sakura, and his only crime was maybe being too intense about it when they first met.
Add on to the fact that Sasuke is an absent father, I really don't know what the authors views on romance are supposed to be.

I don't hate Sakura on principle. However I do ask myself what was gained by having her be the third teammate rather than Naruto. And the answer I get is nothing. Everything Sakura does in the show, minus the stuff about being in love with Sasuke (which lets be honest goes NOWHERE) could have just been done by Hinata instead. Have her apprentice under Tsunade instead.

I don't know. I mean, I certainly see that sasuke is the hotter 'bad boy' type, but I always figured, eyebrows aside, Rock Lee is pretty attractive. He's pretty lean, cleans up, the only thing really off about him is his intense personality, which stops being a barrier once everyone properly gets to know each-other.

They're definitely supposed to portray Chinese characters, with Bruce Lee being the obvious direct reference. It's also probably why Lee doesn't end up with anyone in the main cast as far as I know, he's just kept around as a token foreign character who doesn't pair up with anyone we know.

Which seems super weird. I mean, Rock Lee is treated as part of the core cast (unlike Tenten), Guy is shown to be a giant badass, and equal to Kakashi. If it is racist in some way, I find it very odd they'd go 'we're allowed to be freinsd with the foreigners, but we can't have sex with the them in this fantasy world'.

he had no ninjutsu, genjutsu, demon fox powers or wizard eyes, vessel point detectors, weapons mastery, mind control, etc he was just pure skill and asskicking
So he quickly jobbed him out, nerfed him, and put him on the sidelines for the rest of the series after the Gaara fight, relegating him to nothing more than a gag character. It go so had he even let Gai basically steal all of Lee’s moments in Part 2 for no reason, nobody gave a flying fuck about Might Gai, i thought the whole point was the student is supposed to surpass the master? This happened for EVERY other character...except Lee of course
Do we ever even see Lee attempt to open the gates again? Or training them to get stronger? Nope
