As far as we know, Sessmom never tried to kill Inuyasha. Sesshomaru's gang and Inuyasha's gang were apparently close to each other when Sesshomaru goes to see his mom, and Inuyasha notices the scent of Sesshomaru and another demon in the clouds/sky. The fact that he doesn't recognises her scent probably means he hasn't met her yet.
