Ataru got absolutely shit on for the first 20 minutes, though he then proceeded to be a shitter after he found out about Elle, so I guess it evens out.
Ataru's mom being sad about him leaving was cute.
Lum finally decides to just force the marriage if she wants it so bad, good on her. But holy fuck Ataru looked fucking dead at the little family dinner they had. Even after his behavior earlier I still felt kinda bad for him there.
As I expected, he thinks he'll be able to become a haremlord (including Lum, obviously), so now his behavior checks out with it's usual patterns.

Yeah, because guess what. She's just like him. At the drop of a hat, in the middle of a war between Lum's mother and Mendou's mother, his mother decides to SCAM THEM OUT OF THEIR MONEY. She's INSTANTLY ready to drop Mr. Moroboshi when another dude hits on her or is handsome. Also, this was confirmed by a series writer in the last thread. Ataru's just trying to fill the hole left by not having a true mother shaped figure and his goofy antics and skirt chasing are to cope with his sadness. If you get the guy alone with a girl he likes, he instantly turns shy and acts normal (normal for a Urusei Yatsura character is a stretch) and gets serious.

Plus his voice actor confirmed that Ataru only chases girls because he likes Lum chasing him. He needs a woman to actually want him to remind him that he's not alone.

Mendou does it out of vanity. Ataru does it out of literal depression. But even he's not immune to it. The episode and issue where Lum leaves him, he was on the verge of suicide.

I'm not sure how to feel about Elle's interaction with Ataru after he found out about the fridge. She considers the fridge to be "flirting" supposedly, but was she actually planning to freeze him too? If so, why set up a wedding and everything with him?
If it was just false reassurances (which Ataru clearly saw through), she's really shaping up to be a female version of him, which is actually really interesting. Her dialogue with Barbara over her persistence for Ataru even paralleled his own conversation with Lum on the Oni ship. Like, she seems like a female Ataru, with Ataru himself as her analogue for Lum, if that makes sense.
