What was the logic behind adapting a bad end for School Days? like, was there some sort of monetary incentive? I just can't figure it out

People played the VN for the bad ends.

Maybe they just wanted to piss people off

Controversy breeds attention. That's why we're still talking about School Days fifteen years later.

not like they could air Shiny Days

Cheating is bad.

Because it was interesting you retard

i would just like to know the decision making process behind the choice. wish there was like an interview or something i could read.

...

but like was it 0verflow's decision or the anime producers decision? i'm curious to know

The brutal bloodshed made it memorable.

Though after all these years, I still believe Makoto didnt anything wrong. Damn bitches went crazy just becacause they werent fucked enough

Best route

we will never know

The fact you're making a thread about it years after the fact should tell you why they did it.

i wonder if they were really thinking that far ahead...

It was a decent change up to the harem formula, and the fact that we're still making threads about it here and there should be a good indicator just how rare shit like School Days is.

Its like the decision to kill off John Connor at the start of the final terminator movie. They figured if they do something shocking and edgy it will get attention and thus more sales.

Mantako deserved all of it.

to shake things up in an era when VN adaptions oversaturated the market

It was an era where VN adaptions were cheap to license and had a core audience, the VN fans.
The anime blew up because of an axe murder that happened shortly before the final episode, causing a delay.

The bad endings were pretty much the most memorable part of School Days.

huh? that doesn’t explain who chose to adapt the bad end in the first place

Bad end is more memorable. That's true for both killed characters and unhappy love.

Eva's happy ending is one of the most famous in anime history.

The one where he goes crazy and everyone claps, or where he chokes Asuka near the goo ocean?

see? both of them are remembered

Every anime should end in goochokeclaps then.

Despite the VN being infamous for it's bad endings, Makoto getting killed at the end was still pretty shocking. The anime would have been totally unremarkable and forgotten if they had decided to play it safe.

School days is the only realistic portrayal of a harem anime

There should be a new School Days for all the 2010s anime cliches.

For the same reason that someone decided to write Master of Martial Hearts. Because over-the-top twist endings have shock value.
