After some shenanigans, Makima calls Aki's home and confirms to him that Squad 4 will not participate in the upcoming mission. But Denji and Power will to show off the strengths of Squad 4, Aki is confused, but she says it's because they are under her personal order and will now join Squad 7. The two are ready for it. So Aki asks her to let him join after all. Makima accepts and assures Aki that he is the only one he needs to worry about.
Makima proceeds to reveal that the Gun Devil has already been captured. The original the Soviet's encountered first had already been defeated by someone, so they captured it. It's main body is split up. America has 20%, Soviets 28%, China 11%, some other countries 4% a 37% is held by various fiends around the world.
Aki realises that the Gun Devil who is responsible for Kurose and Himeno's deaths in his opinion was made by humans which Makima confirms. The Gun manufactoring should be strictly controlled by international laws everywhere, but behind the scenes reality is quite different. Everyone has contracts with the gun devil and eradicating it for good will inevitably provoke an all-out war between every country in the world.
On the roof later, a depressed Aki realises that they will never defeat the Gun Devil and Denji and Power will be used for the rest of their lives. Denji remembers Makima promising to do anything he wants if he defeats the Gun Devil in that moment Aki collapses and has a vision. Back in the house Aki asks the Future Devil to show him that vision again, but he does not and after some shenanigans he simply confirms it is true: The future can never be changed! Denji will kill Aki and Power and after that happens the mightiest Devil in the world will be born!

Something tells me Fujimoto is bold enough to kill most of the cast and have a timeskip where only Denji lives or have the main character replaced.

I mean I don't doubt he'd be bold enough, but it would be a dumb move regardless. Killing your MC in the middle of your manga is more of an idiot move 99% of the time than a bold artistic decision or whatever.

Aki attempts to kill Makima to save everyone, but Denji catches him. Power dies in the scuffle causing Denji to go crazy. Butchers Aki who dies with the last words he hears being how much Denji hates him and how he doesn't understand that Aki could do something like that.
