The remade fight is weaker, and doesn't mesh with the webcomic, but it's not a bad fight by any stretch of the imagination. I have no love of the original, because I don't care about the most boring S-class hero, but I can admit that the new fight is a downgrade, just like Sweet Mask's.
However, it's pretty obvious the ONE wants to reuse Phoenix Man, which is why he got retconned to living from the fight in a new form. Just like how he reused Gale Wind and Hellfire Flame.

Amai Mask killing regular people was a bit much, and having a kid kill a children's show mascot was also a bit on the edge. They seem to be skewing it back towards a younger audience.

I liked it. It fleshed out the relationship between CM and the greater S-Class as well as CM's reasoning to be a hero. He's not saving people because he's smart and he more or less has to because of responsibilities. He's doing it because he's a hero at heart too.
