While TTGL is far better when it comes to story/plot structure, Armageddon is still a fairly fun and good show taking in mind it changed directors in the middle of making it. Has rewatch value too and influenced a lot of concepts of TTGL.

I always find the shitposting and baiting of TTGLfags weird because how much Zig Forums loved the show when it first aired. It's like /m/fags forever have an inferiority complex whenever TTGL is brought up. The main point is that Gurren Lagann ripped off a lot of stuff which is not false, but so did Getter Robo. Getter Robo isn't the first mecha manga and rips off older series too, plus tropes like relying on willpower have always been a thing. Getter Robo is a much different experience and it's really disingenuous to say that it's the same shit because you're doing a disservice to both series. Gurren is a more goofy and self-aware shonen coming-of-age story that's like a tribute to past mecha shows, it's like mecha on steroids. The creators of Gurren were huge fans of Getter Robo and am pretty sure they're not pretending it wasn't an inspiration. It's understandable if people see the wackiness of Gurren Lagann and find it more enjoyable, people can prefer different things.

Then do that. No one is forcing you to watch something a certain way. If you're not really into mecha that much, watch Armageddon and see what you wanna do afterwards. If you can stand mecha start with the 70s show if you can handle the corny and the stuff for kids. Armageddon is the "edgiest" out of them all

this is pretty much what's happening. I can kinda relate because I feel like hokuto no ken is superior to Jojo but never gets the same adoration I feel it deserves. Like ttgl, Jojo took some elements from HnK and has a quirkier appeal. getter robo isn't really that good though, just like most of nagai's manga its merits are more about it existing first and being influential than compelling writing. ttgl is also pretty bad but getter isn't that much better or worse
