>See Zig Forums always talking about how great this series is >Read the first volume >Teacher is incredibly annoying >Yukino is the most played straight version of her archetype I've ever seen >Absolutely shamelessly just a character archetype. She's cold. She's perfect at everything. She gives the brutal, harsh truths that everyone needs to know. Everyone is jealous of her and/or loves her >Keep going, rest of the characters are whatever >Okay, I guess we're playing Tennis now >OH NO I INJURED MYSELF >Oh luckily she's ALSO perfect at Tennis >She's somehow just randomly better at a girl who's meant to be at high tournament level
Is there a reason they did this? Does this character ever get any depth?
Or is she literally just a worse version of Kaguya with zero-depth? I seriously rolled my eyes when the cliche bubbly, clumsy girl injured herself. Oh no, I wonder if Kaguya-lite will come in and be randomly incredible at Tennis. Yup.
>Yukino is the most played straight version of her archetype I've ever seen
desu she annoys the fuck out of me too but she pretty much exists to play the 'straight man' to 8man and Yui so she kinda has to be there to make the other characters better. This is why Yui is bestgirl.
that's an empty hook with no bait just like OP's post

What’s Kaguya?
William Garcia
Iroha is the worst character of the show

>See Zig Forums always talking about how great this series is >he took waifu wars seriously MC is an enjoyable dick until the author started painting him as some sort of dark hero, since then the series is insufferable.

Kaguya from Kaguya Wants To Be Confessed Too.
Basically the same character, except she's a lot nicer (and a little more insane). She loses as much as she wins. And the whole schtick about being perfect/proficient at everything is a huge part of her character and the issues with her upbringing.
Ryan Bell
Funnily enough, I found out about Oregairu after reading Kaguya-sama. And after that I can't really take this manga as seriously as before. It feels like Oregairu mocking it and doing a good job at it. Of course, that not really the case here, since Oregairu was first, and if anything it's Kaguya who could have been inspired by the Yukino character. And don't get me wrong though, Kaguya-sama is a good manga and more refined work than Oregairu. It's also not really fair to compair them, since one is a manga and the other is a light novel. Still it's funny to do it though - they have a good contrast.

>See Zig Forums always talking about how great this series is It's your own fault.
It helps that Oregairu is grounded while Kaguya over the top. Oregairu also seems to be a deconstuction of Kaguya of sorts.
Xavier Gomez
well she is perfect at everything she does if you exclude social interactions while also having no stamina

>See Zig Forums always talking about how great this series is lol, no you fucking don't.

>Continued reading >Sensei gets more screentime >Why did someone thing this character was a good idea?
It's a series that's mostly grounded and normal, and then randomly there's this LOL SHE HITS PEOPLE! LOL! SLAPTSTICK! SO FUNNNNEEEY! character.
It's completely tone deaf and doesn't fit at all. It's a series where if there's gonna be violence I expect it to be actually treated as violence, not like some joke.
Kevin Richardson
The early novels are weird, when comparing them to the later novels.
Jacob Parker
>grounded >deconstruction In what way? The melodrama over simplest things was ridiculous, almost soap opera tier.
Thomas Nguyen
Even the people who like the series admit it's bad but enjoy it due to believing that the protagonist is just like them somehow, why would you bother watching this years later?
David Jackson
Self-destruction isn’t a simple thing.
Nathan Garcia
But that's something you see a lot in the japanese industry.
Justin Barnes
4tards still coping that this show got a full adaptation until the end while their toubun shit will be forgotten when its S2 airs.

If you don't like the main character, you're probably not going to like the rest either. As far as Yukino goes, the cliche is just a mask, but I guess that's another cliche in itself. The good part comes when they gradually warm up to each other and learn to find value in relationships, overcome their immaturity, struggle and so on. Yeah, there's a lot of crap in there, but still it's not shallow at all as far as unreliable narrator, subtext, and the exploration of connections between people goes. Other than that, it's a romcom, it hits the points other things in the genre do.
Yeah, I'm reading it currently and it's got this feeling like, as soon as I stop, I'll never start it again.
It really, really isn't any good. Which is a shame, since it's got good parts. But the rest of it is just trope laden garbage, the most predictable nonsense and trite "lessons" possible.
A 6/10 that becomes an 8/10 for some very brief moments.
Colton Cooper
what are you talking about? all of the side characters are garbage in oregairu.
Lucas Roberts
Wait until the introduce the trap and the fat 2channer ripped from Steins;Gate.
