We have this thread every day, but, it's because it's often a more open time in people's lives than the difficult business culture most workplaces have, or, alternatively, the last time many NEETs had friends

A. It's closest to the target demographic age range
B. It makes those mid 20-early 30 anime fans nostalgic for times when they weren't doing 16-18 work days six days a week

For the Japanese, life pretty much ends at high school. It's seen as the last point in your life where you are essentially free from responsibilities hardships from adulthood. Its pretty true for any society but they really enforce this notion. That being said, I have no idea to cinfirm this and see compare it to other society's similar experiences. However, sailor uniforms and such are a big fetish in Japan, hell, even outside Japan since many people here have that fetish.

Given what my best friend from high school told me about college in Japan. College years are very free. Most students didnt even show up to class every day. They just shared notes and recordings of lectures. Came to hand in assignments and to do tests. Otherwise it was just a lot of drinking and smoking on campus.
