Lilith's original body is useless now. The video explains that Gendo wanted to replace Lilith with Unit 01. Unit 01 was made from Lilith instead of Adam, so it had Lilith's body. After the N3I happened, Rei II/Lilith's soul was stuck inside Unit 01. So Unit 01 technically became Lilith at that point. Something happened in the 14-year gap, the 3I was triggered and Lilith's original body began to move only to be impaled by the spears. In 3.0, Kaworu pointed out that the Lilith they were seeing was just Lilith's corpse and nothing more, and after Shinji pulled the spears, Lilith's original body exploded and was gone just like that. At that point, Unit 01 became Lilith officially just as Gendo wanted.
The video also explains that Gendo wants to do the same thing he did with Unit 01 to Unit 13. Unit 13 is one of the surviving Adams, Mari states this in the movie. So it has Adam's body. If Gendo wants to replicate what he did, he needs to put Adam's soul and his own soul inside Unit 13. But for that to happen, he needed Kaworu/the first angel/Adam to die while inside Unit 13 so his soul could be stuck in it, and what better way to get Kaworu to die than forcing him to become the trigger for the 4I? The moment that happened, Kaworu became the 13th angel. Mari also states that Kaworu becoming the 13th angel was something that Gendo wanted. I'm guessing Gendo knew of Kaworu's fondness for his son and suspected that he would put on the DSS choker before piloting unit 13. The only thing left he'd have to do is restore the impaled unit 13 and put his own soul inside it by using Nebuchadnezzar's key.

But the trailer shows only things you'd expect after watching 3.33. Admittedly there's a lot of room between 143 and 299's Final Impact, and I have no idea what the total scene counts of the previous movies were, so I guess there still could be some place for surprises.

Of course not, but it isn't just a bunch of randomly selected scenes. They gave us a frame. Whatever else happens between the scenes shown, we already know the structure of the movie in at least broad strokes. So we know with certainty that say, it won't descend into surreal nonsense halfway though.

The problem is that Anno wastes screen time on useless action scenes, in 3.0 he wasted like 15 minutes on the scene where the WILLE crew fought the weird angel hybrid weapons when he could've used some of that time on character development instead. The same thing is happening in 3.0+1.0 too, the fight in Paris didn't need to be 10 minutes long.
