No, that was the bullshit excuse that the author to justify killing her off only a single volume after she was introduced. Westcott suddenly being able to become the same as her is also another stupid excuse he used in order to get rid of her, without that plot device Mio would have never died and we would have never gotten that stupid excuse about her wanting to die. What's the point of wasting nearly 20 volumes building a character only to kill said character a volume after her introduction happened?

What would be the point of keeping her alive? She never fell for Shido, so there's no point of keeping her around. For me, her dead end was a proper way to end her story.

Except that wasn't a stupid excuse for Mio. Her first love was murdered in front of her eyes, she lost her life purpose that day. Human souls are lost once they die. Mio's plan was useless because she realized in the end that her lover was gone, and would never come back to life. She obviously had a death wish. She wanted to be with her first love in the afterlife. Keeping Mio alive would have gone against her wishes, she's better dead and happy in the afterlife.
