Thoughts on kakegurui? plot was weird but goddamn it was hot

I think it's technically pretty bad but i still really enjoy it. One of the things that is most fun about this kinda "rigged game gambling" genre (maybe it's just a non-deadly death-game) is trying to figure out how the protagonist would be able to cheat the game. I guess it's like detective shows: you want to be able to figure out the criminal based on what is shown to you. The problem with kakegurui, and why i think its a bad iteration of the genre, is because it presents the rules of the game, then completely disregards them and has Yumeko solve it with some magical bullshit that you couldn't possibly know from what has been presented. And this happens for practically every game. There's never any tension because of her borderline omniscience, and it leaves you asking what the point of spending the time detailing the game was at all. So, i think it fails the basic premise of its genre.
Still, i really enjoyed it. It live and dies on how fun Yumeko and Mary are as characters, and their interactions with an equally fun side-cast. the show kinda has that quality where, because everything is bullshit, it becomes fun to see just how it will out-bullshit itself next.

By magical i just meant magical to the audience. She is hyper perceptive, but of things the audience can't be expected to know. (eg, in the game with Midari she knows the displays are mirrored because Ryouta is left handed. Sure, it is technically possible to know Ryouta's handedness from watching the show, but i don't think anyone on earth pays attention to that. and i consider that one of the more possible games. Take the finger guillotine game where it is presented to us that Yumeko had the iron plate removed when it turns out it was a rickety table leg (which we weren't shown) that was changed instead, and only revealed after the game is over.)

It's really good. I should check if I missed some recent chapters.

The handedness seems perfectly fair as something you can go back and check, if they kept it consistent. And the table being rickety actually shows up here, though it's subtle.
