So, while being in hell Pochita fucked up tons of devils, and then someone (probably one of primordial devils) killed her. She was revived on earth and got wounded somehow (it looked like bullet wounds to me). After that she had contract with denji. It's all clear.
But wtf with this Denji's strange dream about a door and Pochita's voice that tells him not to open the door? Do anyone has any ideas?

Is this series as kino as firepunch?

pochita's memories

Pretty KINO, if you ask me

Could you give me a quick rundown of what makes it so great? I was planning to get into it for a while now

BEHIND YOU

Why not just read it? I don't get fags like you who always wait to be convinced by someone else to try something out instead of just doing so by themselves.

the setting is great (80s, cold war era, replace nukes with devils)
power system is cool (making contracts with devils)
the action is great
lots of funny moments as well
MC is non-standard

read the first 20 chapters and you will see
posting one of my favorite sequences from the beginning chapters

How do we know it takes place in the 80s? I don't recall seeing that mentioned in the manga.

>the action is great
Adding to this, many pages feel like reading a movie storyboard. It's cool.

recent chapter has a rotary phone
no one has cell phones
chapter 73 pretty much confirmed it

The Soviet Union is alive and well, so definitely not very late 80s or early 1990s.

Script, directing, staging, atmosphere, character design.
Its like reading dialogues from movie plot, but also you see concept art of scenes where these dialogues will be used when movie will be released.
Overall reminds of Tarantino's creations.

What's the kanji read here?

This is a widescreen CRT, though. They didn't hae those in the 80s.
I assumed that the USSR still existing made it an alternate history.

it's implied by the technology and a few setting details that it's in the past. In the most recent chapter we see Aki's phone is rotary

I can't bend the tip of my middle and ring finger like that, what the fuck?

Holy fuck I want to live in Chainsaw Man's world so badly, bros.

Well, it think it's just easier to say it's the 80s
there's more that speaks for than evidence that speaks against it

Name your devil and the price of your contract

I think once we reach 100 chapters, we should do a proper story time so we can relive some of the greatest chapters

Now, read the first 20 chapters and report back.

There are some recent car models featured in some chapters too, but it's usually the phones that give it away. You wouldn't think Shiki, for example, takes place in the mid 90s, but then you realise no one has mobile phones or modern TVs.

It's an action-horror story with big emphasis on character moments. The mangaka pulls no punches when it comes to create true tension when it's required, but peppered with a good sense of humor that doesn't consist in characters yelling at each other but instead in the personalities of everyone and how they interact with eachother.

Artstyle makes it look gritty and messy because it is. It feels cinematic, punk and indie, like something a guy who loves R-rated movies from the 80s and 90s would make in his basement instead of feeling mass produced for the shonen demographic.

Honestly, and I hate to say this, but it feels like a seinen without the edgy excesses.
