I've never seen after story or did Nagisa's route. Tomoyo (and Tomoyo after), Mikoto, girl with delinquent brother, Sunohara, Kyou/Ryou was enough Clannad for me at the time. If a Key VN is the itch I need to scratch, should I finish up the flagship Clannad arc or try out Kanon instead?

I wish that, in the episode where Kyou and Tomoya are locked in the gym room together, they should've got out by climbing through the window, but at first Kyou's butt would've been too fat to fit.

I only watched the anime of clannad and after story, so I don't know if the visual novel is better but I believe the story is about the same, After Story was much better, but it was still underwhelming, maybe I felt that way because my expectations were really high considering the praise I saw for it in almost all anime websites I visit.
As for visual novels, I only played steins;gate and time hollow, thought they had better stories than clannad, but also nothing special.
