Anime isn't balls. Anime probably has one of the best soundtracks of any modern battle shonen.

There are 8 parts, the anime covers 5.
Watch the anime, and then switch to manga with part 6.
Also, there's bw manga, and the colored version. Part 6 colored is fine, but for 7 and 8 I'd advise going bw, because the coloring there, especially for 7, is terrible and actually hurts the art.

It really lives up to its name, parts just get more and more bizarre one after the other. It's a cool shonen with a cool power system from part 3 onwards. Try it for yourself, some people say that part 1 is rough, but it's fairly short so don't get discouraged, it's only 9 episodes. Also don't pay much attention to the fanbase, it can get pretty bad sometimes.

Some casts are better than others, but they're pretty good for the most part. The earlier parts don't offer to much character development, but becomes more common later on. In the 30 years that JoJo has been published, it has consistently gotten better in every aspect
