I never read a book more depressing in my life.
I never read a book more depressing in my life
Context? What's depressing about it?
watch requiem for a dream
It was about how the main character hurt everyone around him and his struggle with depression and suicide while having extreme social anxiety.
It was the authors autobiography and suicide note right down to how he kills himself in real life a month later. Of course it is a best seller and classic in Japan.
Huh ito did a dazai retelling? Will have to check out. Wish setting sun got at least one reinterpretation - imo the better dazai work.
Feel like there's quite a few literary works that'd make for good manga:
>Natsuo kirino - grotesque
MC has that delicious and cintradicyory disgust for the world
>Kenzaburo oe - the changeling
Coming to terms with your bros death, while dealing with right wing nuts, shitty critics, an autistic child while listening to cassettes your boi left behind - can get very innovative with flashbacks
> Murakami - hard boiled wonderland
I get it, "pop-art" to the "cultured", but he builds some fantastic worlds none more so than in this work - feel it'd lend well to manga
Of course, I think even western lit could make for great stuff (kafka and Dumas have already been already iirc). And OP, try the novel out (I like it, tho criticisms of self-indulgence are valid)
You can take pleasure in knowing the fact that Osamu Dazai was kind of a piece of shit in real life.
Maybe you should read the real one
The MC became unbearable. He kept fucking up the lives of those around him, but I still felt for him since he sexually abused as a child.
check out Aoi Bungaku for the Zig Forums adaptation (first four episodes cover it, if i remember correctly)
I might have to give the novel a try. After all I do expect differences when doing a Manga adaption.
It was the shock of finding out the history of the book that got to me, thinking it was just a story.
The novel is much less gruesome than Ito's adaptation, which exaggerates and outright makes up some parts. To be honest, I didn't like the manga very much.
I've only read the actual book once and had no desire to do so again. Same with Confessions of a Mask by Yukio Mishima. Both are miserable stories based on their real lives which makes it even worse.
sounds boring
>I never read a book more depressing in my life.
Read something by Hemingway
What kind of fetish do you think Ito has
Personally I thought hellstar remina was a lot more depressing.
The manga isn’t very good compared to the original book and the anime adaptation.
I like Itos art doe
Read goodnight punpun
Watch texhnolyze
Listen to Giles Corey
Lots of things are sadder than Osamu the cuck Dazai
>goodnight punpun
you cannot be serious
He seems like a pretty cool guy.
The only good thing about this book is that there are plenty of sex scenes to fap to. Hell even the MC faps to a sex scene of his wife if I remember correctly
It's ridiculously tragic it's become comedy for me
It got dumped a few months ago. Check the archives
Kinda good looking in a strange rugged way.
>bewitched by a pretty young girl named Tomie and commits double suicide with her
>Tomie
I guess he was a great influence on Ito.
>the anime adaptation
i dont even think it can be called an adaptation
Wait till you see my biography
most overrated movie ever. nothing but cheap emotional manipulation from start to finish.at least the ending was hot
Isekai Shikkaku is also pretty neat
with MC based on dazai
I storytimed that a few months back, a good time was had by all
