The only thing that has ever been interesting about him is that he plays a musical instrument and gets in the robot despite how much he hates it. The interesting portion of his arc is that, despite how much it fucking kills him to do it, he continues to seek proximity.
Having a damaged psyche isn't an interesting personality trait. Being a disassociated angsty teen isn't an interesting character type, and literally never has been in all of history. There is absolutely nothing wrong or uninteresting about being average, unless you are the epitome of average, trying to escape from yourself. That's no one's problem but your own.
