Why does it seem like there's only one level of violence in anime? Either you're killing people, or it's slapstick, or it's Shonen bullshit, on a per-show basis. Pic related is a prime example. They're all like "ooh, we gotta kill hojo!" "no, you can't, you'll get arrested!". Just kick the POS's ass, man, it's not that complicated. There are worlds of possibilities between "let's call inept child services" and "let's murder a man in cold blood". I get this with a lot of anime, too, not just higurashi. I think it has something to do with how Japanese people view violence. Thoughts?

Perhaps it's to make anime more dramatic
I guess. There are other shows where characters should just kill a dude, but they don't even seem to regard it as an option. It's almost like a trope, that anime never have a nuanced take on this sort of thing.
>Just kick the POS's ass, man, it's not that complicated
How would that work? It is hard for a middle/jonior schooler to intimidate a grown man, especially if he considers himself tough and is a bully?
Threatening with weapons without using them would lead to bad things, and incapaciatation is hard.
I mean, the police would still get involved, but if the five or six of them together jump the guy and kick his ass, tell him to get out of town, then the police will be more likely to believe them than child welfare. My point is, if you're willing to jump to something as drastic as "let's kill him", it's probably more practical just to try to run him out by some less extreme means first.
You might want to remember little factor called "magical paranoia parasites" that actually affected those kids. Also, it is kind of hard to get your friends to go beat up and scare off some man. Well, as it turned out, those friends were open to burin his pieces, but nevertheless!
the japanese people aren't allowed to portray a sympathetic character killing people outside of self defense or doing drugs or breaking any kind of laws or social taboos and it's incredibly stifling and leads to anime being very formulaic and predictable
what I wouldn't give for an anime where the main character does cocaine or something
Is it a network thing? They kill plenty of people in Bebop and other adult-type shows. But higurashi shouldn't have aired on any kids networks either. Did you just mean it's a cultural taboo?
There is a major amount of time spent in the VNs exploring all the angles K1 could have handled Teppei but all them were dead ends. He is portrayed one of the major reason why the characters go insane (together with Reina). If Reina is killed by the yakuza, Teppei goes to claim Satoko which makes K1 bonkers, if Reina doesn't get killed she leeches on Rena's dad which in turn drives her insane.
K1? Is that a shortening of Keichi? And are there any routes in the VN where they just try to kick the guy's ass without killing him?
The VN doesn't have routes, it's kinetic, separated by chapters. Most of the 7th arc is about making him fuck by rallying public support, since Satoko's family is shunned nobody really cares about her.
>Just kick the POS's ass, man, it's not that complicated.
And what after that? Satoko is still in his custody, and he can still abuse her when he wants. All that does is heighten the risk of his attackers getting caught.
satoko is for rape only
Kick his ass bad enough that he runs away. Happens all the time in rural communities. Yank a couple teeth, tell him you'll kill him if he comes back. The point is, that's a lot less drastic than murder, but anime don't often seem to see the distinction.
Also, while we're on the topic of higurashi–if Rika has so much prep time, why doesn't she just find one of the numerous guns in the area, or a knife or something, and barricade herself until the fated night is over? I'm still watching now, so if this is actually answered, just let me know w/o spoilers please.
I don't know, I'm not an anime industry insider, but if you watch enough anime it becomes painfully clear that the authors aren't permitted to use the full range of artistic expression
I was watching this anime called chiyo chan's school road and they do this scene where they find a cigarette and take pictures of each other pretending to smoke it but they never take an actual puff because that would be bad even though that would be super interesting
and if underage characters get drunk it's A L W A Y S either by accident or in an isekai where laws are different
then there was that one anime Charlotte where the main character goes crazy and goes on a rampage where he launches chopsticks in to people's eyes and shit, then after mutilating a few badguys he picks up some drugs and is about to do them when this bitch who can turn invisible suddenly appears and kicks them out of his hand saying she won't allow him to "lose his soul" like a little pcp is the end of the world, that was the closest thing to drug use I've seen in anime.
and I know there were weird rules for hentai about how if you wanted to have penetration it couldn't be between two humans which is why tentacle porn became so prominent, plus the whole mosiac thing
and then that's contrasted by bestiality and incest and like nude lolis and shit being completely acceptable
all I know is japan has some weird standards about what's acceptable to show on tv which are polar opposite of the west's where drugs and violence are okay but your 12 year old sister getting in to bed with you naked would be sacrilege
but there's plenty of fucked up manga you can put whatever you want in manga your mc can murder his entire school class with a heroin needle in his ass in a manga
I'm rambling
OHOHOHOHOHOHO
There is no fated night, more like an inescapable and certain fate of death. She tried many things, even running away which made her die eventually, just a few weeks later. There are only so many things you can do as a 11~ year old.
I mean, with a gun and many years of training, even an eleven year old can cap as many knife-wielding goons as necessary. It just doesn't feel super realistic. If she only had 10 or 20 loops I'd buy it, but after 100 years she should be able to do anything at all.
She doesn't even know who or what is making her die and why.
NUDE SATOKO BY AKIO WATANABE
NUDE SATOKO BY AKIO WATANABE
NUDE SATOKO BY AKIO WATANABE
Again, after 100 years she should be able to tell just by the expressions on people's faces or the fragments she can see of the men that kill her. It doesn't bother me that much, because functionally the show acts more like it's been a dozen or so loops.
>just by the expressions on people's faces or the fragments she can see of the men that kill her
What
You're telling me that if you were being ritually disembowled every three months for a hundred years, by people you know, you wouldn't be able to figure out who it was by looking at them? Or even just context clues?
No, she doesn't have any idea and doesn't remember the last few hours before it happens. It happens to her in every world, the scenarios simply play out somewhat differently. In about a third of the world she gets killed by Shmion but that's about it. The only clue she has is that in the beginning she was able to go back years, and she was still killed in the June of 1983 so her death was set in stone even as a 5 year old for that exact date.
Theres not. Gundam (and Zeta) for example are series that employs many different types of violence. They uses violence both tragically, humorously, as a tool for character interaction and development, and for eye candy. People kill and harm others for a vast swathe of reasons, from accidental, to self defense, to duty, to personal vendetta, to flat out enjoyment of the act.
It's implied that she's knocked out before she gets killed so she can't possibly know.
Even when she wasn't drugged / knocked out and made Takano dissect her alive she still didn't remember who killed her until Hanyū told her
Satoko is for headpats and being protected
If you're talking about the end of Minagoroshi that's because Hanyuu had almost no power left to restore those memories. It's like if you got concussed by somebody and you can't remember the collision, except the concussion was caused by a cunt with a scalpel.
If this is actually a thing it seems to be anime only because those kinds of things happen quite a lot in manga. But I think you're just full of shit and it just stems from how little imagination people who make anime have. Everything is just trying to copy everything else and so you end up with the same things happening in every series.
