Does Karen get more focus later on in Y5? I'm starting to close the series out and it doesn't feel like they've given her a lot of attention.

She gets a cool episode but the season is basically just the Nozomi & sometimes Komachi show

Honestly doesn't feel like Komachi has gotten a lot of focus either to be honest but I either haven't gotten to her episodes yet or my perception is off.

Anyway was hoping Karen get balanced out a little better in the last 1/3 or so since she feels underutilized, almost like she's just an afterthought. If she gets eps in GoGo I suppose that's just as good.

The notion that Komachi gets "focus" in Y5 is a bit of an insane notion. There are episodes where they talk about her working on her shitty book but it's hardly fleshing out a personality or relationships or anything.

Komachi gets a lot of focus by virtue of being one two females in a romantic relationship.

Isn't it more like Nuts gets the focus and Komachi is along for the ride?

yeah basically but if you're scoring it on points she'd technically still have more focus than most of the crew

You'll soon learn that not all Cures are made equal, there's always at least one of them that gets sidelined compared to the rest of the team, that said I don't think that lack of screentime applies to any Yes5 since they have two seasons.

It kind of is, seeing as Yes 5 for a long time was the only PreCure that actually dipped into traditional magical girl romance. After that, we basically have

None of them come even close to Nuts x Komachi, let alone Coco x Nozomi. The aforementioned boat scene is the steamiest Pretty Cure has ever and probably will ever be.
