Yes, Violet Evergarden is a beautiful looking anime. Too bad that's not all it takes to tell a good story though. Too bad that it doesn't do enough to get the audience invested with the characters, so the drama came off as extremely hallow and manipulative.

Just look at that detailed lived-in world.
Look at all those beautiful individually-drawn houses.
Imagine all the people living in them.
Imagine all the unique lives they're each living.
Imagine all that burning and dying because they couldn't just not steal some NEET's ideas

>memorable wordlbuilding
you mean not!InterwarEurope?

>Not europe setting
>Characters eat yakisoba bread
This fucking garbage is just the textbook definition of manipulative and dishonest, In every sense.

The world building of VG actually isn’t that deep. It’s a secondary world during its own version of the space between World War I and II. And it’s mostly a backdrop. We never find out the politics of the people fighting the war we never find out why the war started. Was is their own version of Archduke Ferdinand murdered? Did one nation want lebensraum and the other didn’t? It’s never explained.
Which is perfectly fine considering the story is about violet learning to be human again. And not on the grander politics of the story but the world building doesn’t really matter in this series.

I liked the characterization. Esp during ep5 with the princess and all her fancy dresses.

the high line count helps

>Too bad that it doesn't do enough to get the audience invested with the characters
It actually does amazingly for a single cour episodic anime. I can't believe I cried on the mother episode when I only those characters for 15 minutes.

>manipulative
What? A good anime is meant to be able to manipulate your feelings. If it can't then it's failed to be moving.

I really liked that actually. It leaves it's mark as a Japanese production that way.

There are some hints at the politics here and there, and the cause early into episode 4.
The mention of marquises, though the translation should've probably been margrave, at the end of episode 2 ties in a bit with what's said in episode 4 about the House of Lords.
Which is to say, Leidenschaftlich, at least, is some sort of parliamentary system with a formal aristocracy.
I think it's safe to assume it mirrors the German Empire's style of constitutional monarchy.

>A good anime is meant to be able to manipulate your feelings
A good anime does this without being obvious and forced about it. You are just too easily emotionally manipulated.

Can you not assume stuff about people you don't know? Violet Evergarden is the one and only piece of media I've cried watching. And I've seen around 420 or so anime and countless regular tv series.

All that detail and they're STILL drawing reflections. This is why i love Violet Evergarden so much.

Why does Germany get to see the movies before everyone else?

Good for you

I just have one question, there's some 80 GB torrent in nyaa for this and it contains the BD episodes and 4 files calling itself the Violet Evergarden Theatrical Edition. Are these Theatrical files drastically different from the episodes or are they just the series files compiled into some format with maybe 5 minutes of new animation because if it's the latter I won't grab them.

eating shit is german tradition so they get to taste that crap before everyone else

Theatrical edition is basically just the BD version without OP's and ED's between episodes as far as I know.

Le chokky evergordo thread.

Old alliances?

Ah that makes sense.

And speaking of versions, I'll just use this opportunity to point out again that there are slight differences in the sound mix between the BD and original broadcast.
It doesn't affect many things, but the original broadcast version of episode 10 is better in my opinion.

Ok? But they're literally going to see before Japan of all places.

Yea. That was one of the best establishing shots in anime.

For me, it's Violet.
