Rumiko did ALL the characters dirty. The only person who gets to beat yokai is Inuyasha consistently. Like I know he's the main character but they're supposed to be a team

My main lad Miroku would have been immensely op had that wasp crutch not existed. Also, near the end of the series, the hole in his hand was very near the breaking point.

He was too OP at the start, i hate when OP characters like him get introduced too early in the story

I remember when Miroku was first introduced it looked like he could legitimately go toe-to-toe with Inuyasha but he got downgraded pretty hard

why couldn't he switch the tunnel to reverse to blow away the miasma/bees?

Yeah fuck this shit. I don't know if it was different in the manga though. But Miroku was deflecting all of his strikes, until he tripped on a log. Then next episode the poison ink hit him when he absorbed it with his wind tunnel, and the following episode fucking bees.

Inuyasha being the only useful one makes sense although that's just because I liked the beginning when it was just Inuyasha and Kagome

Inuyasha couldn't even use the Wind Scar at that point. As soon as Tessaiga started powering up, humans like Miroku and Sango would've stood no chance against him.

I wasn't expecting him to keep up with Inuyasha, I just expected a better performance from him.

It's not so much keeping up with Inuyasha that's the issue as much as it's like he really just doesn't do anything major. Heck none of them really do except Inuyasha and Kagome occassionally

They aren't buffed by the jewel shards so they can't do much against main plot villians. Hell, the Band of Seven was only able to fight against Inuyasha because of them with the leader needing multiple jewel shards to overpower him.

How do you make a monk so useless against supernatural creatures?
Miroku's curse should have been a triumph card, not his only means of being useful

I've never seen a story with such unsatisfying character arcs. Especially Sesshomaru. Holy fuck that man got ruined at every turn. Pretty much everything from Kagura dying onwards was just a endless sequence of tragedy for him with no payoff at all.

Sess is the only character who actually had something resembling a character arc

Yeah, and I suspect he was shelved to keep him from taking over the manga, just how Kuno was very close from stealing the show in Ranma 1/2 and had to be put on a backrow. Takahashi tends to screw up on who the main character is supposed to be.

Miroku had magic powers that everyone, including Rumiko, seem to forget about. He knows how to create force fields, magic seals, turn people and areas invisible, disintegrate demons with salt and paper, and could sense demonic energy.

Inuyasha wasn't actually trying to kill Miroku. Also Inuyasha wasn't an OP badass by that point. He got shat on pretty often.
