>The Chimera Ants arc of Hunter x Hunter is a complete subversion of not only death battle arcs but a direct criticism of the battle shounen genre itself. Whereas one would anticipate a battle to end all battles between Gon and Meruem, instead gives its audience real depth by having its so-called 'villain' have a final, quiet death scene playing a game. This is most poignant by Gon's battle with Pitou. Where as other stories in the genre such as Dragonball, Naruto, One Piece and even Bleach cast an all powerful transformation as a power fantasy, Hunter x Hunter reveals it for what it is: a horror show. Gon's transformation isn't awe inspiring; it's tragic. The revelation of the child adventurer trope becoming a sociopath and betraying his values. Togashi puts all other works, including his own library of Yu Yu Hakusho and Level E to shame. Kudos to him.
The Chimera Ants arc of Hunter x Hunter is a complete subversion of not only death battle arcs but a direct criticism...
cringe
based
Then he undoes any kind of sacrifice and lasting impact from that fight the very next arc through a complete aspull.
Truly a genius.
All I remember from that arc was nothing mattered, my nukes bad, and homosexuality.
Read slower.
It's physically impossible to read hxh any slower with Togashi's release schedule.
it's a worse version of the cell arc
fuck off shounenshit
episode 1
>I'm just a kid with a dream
later on
>Son of one of the top 5 nen users in the world, able to become as strong as the most powerful antagonist just by being emo about a fake death of a one-dimensional side character, could survive inhumanly destructive attacks throughout the story even though he's supposedly just some kid
>Deconstruction
Oh my god stop taking the bait
don't drag level E into these shounen shitfests, it was a riot
>just some kid
And yet you still somehow missed it?
>Son of one of the top 5 nen users
False
>able to become as strong as the most powerful antagonist just by being emo
False
>he's supposedly just some kid
False
Yawn...
Ging clearly stated that it's still there but he can't see it. So no, there are no repercussions. His whole "prepared to never uses nen again" contract is B.S.
It's literally togashi stalling. Same thing he did with Chrollo until he introduced nen exorcist.
I agree, that arc is masterful but the rest of the show is standard cliche cookie cutter shounen shit.
So no, there are no [headcanon]
Back to your general, spic.
>achieved his goal
>zero use for nen anymore
Togashi is literally copying Avatar. Aang unable to go into Avatar state until hurr durr we need it work again for story to progress ass-pull.
I bet he will get his nen back though. I hope he won't but this a shonen series at the end of the day.
Nah, lol. HxH is trash.
degonstruction haha
I think Gon is the dumbest-looking shounen protagonist but he's also my favorite simply by virtue of being an unrepentant bad person. I'm so fucking tired of insipid "saving the world with fourth-grade moral views" protagonists, can't even get away from that shit in non-shounen.
cringe af, enjoy rereading HxH. berserkchads see you in one week
Enjoy your next chapter, berserk"""chad""".
But it was stated literally in 1 chapter that he's the the son of the greatest hunter ever, Pablo
Based. Gon is a subversion of an underdog hero while being a deconstruction of a gifted hero-trope.
In a lot of shonen series story begins with an 'underdog' protag who wins almost every fight and becomes much stronger as story progresses. Gon is the opposite. Story tells you from the beginning that he is the son of one of the best people ever and has giant potential (1 on 10.000.000), yet he loses 50% of the fights or at least psychically useless to do anything in them. More than that, Gon wins only 2 serious fights in the whole series and in one of them sacrifices his protagonist status in order to win.
>the face of idiot watching this thinking it is anything complex
>Enjoy your next chapter, berserk"""chad""".
Yes something HiatusxHiatus will never get
love to hear about "deconstructions" and "subversions" from people who learnt litcrit on TVTropes
