Cow MAN

Ok, real talk here!

Can we all agree that pic related fight was the peak of not only part 6 but the entire Jojo franchise? Because it is! Like it or not.

Now aside from that, Jojo for me died when part 6 ended. I fucking hate SBR and Jojolion. That shit is Jojo only in name, gone is everything that made the series amazing in its shonen Jump days. But whatever, let the kids call whatever they think is Jojo these days, some fags in sailor suits larping like part 4 characters... idk. Jojo died with 6 and this was the peak. That is all.

There are plenty of things that I genuinely liked about Stone Ocean. There was no doubt in my mind that I liked DIO's children, with the exception of Ungalo. Mostly because he had the least character development and came off as more of a thug. But along with Donatello Versace, I liked what they did with Rikiel but I felt that they could have done more with him.

Rikiel is one of the four sons of Dio Brando. It was because of the Stand he had that he had suffered from chronic panic attack-like symptoms with his knees giving out, sweaty palms and his eyelids constantly falling. He suffered from these symptoms so severely, that he could barely function and tore down his self-confidence. It wasn't until he had met with Enrico Pucci that he had properly unlocked his Stand; Sky High.

It was not only because of his panic attack-symptoms being relieved from him that he pledged his loyalty to Pucci. But it was also because he liked the idea of his own evolution/progression; that he could start from a weak coward to a warrior-like figure with a great boost in confidence. He was also grateful of the fact for helping him turn into a more confident person in addition in unlocking his Stand. The part of DIO he seems to have inherited is his sense of determination and nobility. Throughout his fight with Jolyne, he finds new ways to use his Stand, such as sending the rods in his command to attack the hypothalamus gland.

To me, Rikiel was a near perfect mix of DIO and Jonathan; a proto Giorno, if you will. The way he references Apollo 11 to himself, his sense of determination, his own noble action in admitting defeat and admitting information to Jolyne, he almost embodies a lot of tropes found in heroes. Hell, when he does reference himself to Apollo 11 and how he wants to be a great human achievement, it almost sounds like Jonathan talking about human conviction when he faced off against DIO. Hell, he could have been the main hero or a great supporting character to Jolyne's crew. Along with his overall personality traits and poses, he could have been the main Jojo and he does have the Joestar birthmark.

But the type of hero he could have been would have been a tragic hero. If you look into the song lyrics of what his Stand's name is, Sky High, it's a song all about giving everything that you've got and still ending up with failure. Fitting the theme and characteristics of most tragic heroes, Rikiel would likely suffer a case of Hamartia – a tragic flaw that causes the downfall of a hero. This would be or come from his personality. While he does have most of DIO's better characteristics, those same characteristics could also be seen in his other father's characteristics; Jonathan. With the way he quotes on human progression, he would likely believe that a person can change their nature much like himself; which in turn would bring about his downfall.

I can say that he made the strongest impression on me. He is my favorite Jojo / character out of them all!

ok

Nope.

The only thing I dislike is why I dislike part 6 in general, despite having the highest highs and lowest lows the way how Araki handled the conclusion of Sky High was horrendous. From there I knew that Jojo ended...

>gone is everything that made the series amazing in its shonen Jump days
Part 5 was consistently on the bottom of the popularity polls back then, it wasn't amazing at all

That fight left a strong impression because I remember that the guy went "wow that bitch actually lit herself on fire just to beat me, I think I lost"

Part 7 had shit sales while it was publishing and most did not even know it was Jojo because it wasn't intended to be until half way in.

It only gained somewhat of popularity in the 2010's decade.

This, Rikiel, Underworld, C-Moon, and Westwood were my favorite fights in part 6 btw.

Dragon Dream could have been one of them... but I'm split on that one. The rest I hate strongly.

>I'm split on that one
I'm not
Also I want to fuck Foo Fighters

still don't know what drove Araki to draw a very detailed rod pic. Part 6 was great, part 7 and 8 just felt a bit less vibrant.

How come Araki didn’t know that rods are just birds?

The "DIO's children" shit was dumb, this fight was alright though

FACT: You did not read SBR and Jojolion

One of the funniest things about Jojo is when Araki gets fixated on something super specific like this to use in the story

>I fucking hate the two best parts

Wow

He stumbles across random fun facts and incorporates them in the story instead of just writing about them in the author's notes. It's pretty cool actually.

How the fuck can he control rods?

How the fuck can DIO stop time

Based but bluepilled

I know it's just that rods are something weird and random of a choice to control.

It's just as said, Araki likes incorporating random stuff he heard about into the story, and usually gives it his own bizarre twist

Jojo has a lot of good characters, yeah

So, Jojo has been consistently crap for two decades?

Part 6 is full of that, I loved the detailed explanation of the meteorites floating around the atmosphere, you can tell that he just watched or read about it recently and had to include it. I guess Part 6 was made during a long string of space related interest.

Actually yeah, now that I think about it, we had a lot of space related things in part 6
>Jumpin' Jack Flash
>Planet Waves
>Rykiel talking about the whole Apollo 11 thing
>Pucci in a spaceship
>Universe reset
There's probably more that I forgot about rn

Remember when Pucci literally created the SBRverse?

I've always felt that part 6 just lacked something of previous parts, it has some of the coolest and craziest stands ever seen, but something about it just doesn't quite feel right and I've never been able to accurately describe what it is, I don't think the main characters are particularly interesting or have great chemistry with each other (which part 5 also suffered from to a worse extent) and I know people on here will rush to defend them because they jerk off over some of them, but characters like Hermes just don't get that much interesting to do after their showcase fight and just feel underutilised. I think the other problem is that it doesn't feel like it has much "atmosphere" to it, like the setting is not as fleshed out or explored and just feels empty and sterile for the most part. I still like it, but not as much as I think I should.
