No he's right, Renji has a bankai yet he wasn't forced to take over as captain for one of the squads, Ikkaku having a bankai wouldn't make him captain material either the dude sucks ass at leadership, Rukia at least lead Squad 13 according to the novels when Sentaro and Kyoine were busy trying to keep Ukitake from dying and Ukitake had already fitted Kaien's hiori for Rukia before he died, he gave it Kyoraku to pass to Rukia before he activated the Mimihagi and Kyoraku gave it to Rukia at the after party of her wedding night, she didn't accept right away, she became captain a few months later once she and Renji were all settled in. I really hope the anime adapts the novels those stories should be told before the epilogue chapter to make it more impactful

You're forgetting that Soul King realm simply cannot be reached from Seireitei, you can only go up if someone from there comes down and invites you and the Guards themselves don't give a flying fuck about what happens down there.
