Thermal energy (U) of an object can be calculated as a product of a mass (m) and temperature (T in Kelvin)

U = mT , m > 0

Lets assume, that Sister's original mass m1 is expanded k-times into bigger mass m2

m2 = k*m1 , k > 1

So thermal energy before and after transformation is :

U1 = m1*T1
U2 = m2*T2

We assume that amont of thermal energy is same, so U1=U2, which results in:

m1*T1 = m2*T2

Replace m2:

m1*T1 = k * m1 * T2

m1 can be removed, because m1>0

T1 = k * T2

Simplify:

T2 = T1 / k

Lets assume she increases her mass 5-times, so k = 5 and that her original temperature is 32degreeC / 305K , T1 = 305

T2 = 305 / 5 = 61K

So after she transforms, her temperature is 61K or -212degreeC .

Of course, we can agree that she can also create and destroy heat as she grows and shrinks. But that would make her too OP.

By this point Mahou shoujo in japanese media is like Fantasy in japanese media, there is more parody and "mahou shoujo with a twist!" than the actual thing played straight since they have been doing parodies and twisted versions since the 90s

Classic mahou shoujo, aimed at young girls, is almost exclusively just Precure now. It doesn't really help that the child demographics in Japan are shrinking so there's not as many young girls to market to.

Meanwhile Nanoha and then Madoka showed that magical girl franchises aimed at the male otaku crowd can make bank.

To be fair, nothing beats the classics. Trying to top the original with the same formula is always going to be looked down upon as a cheap cashgrab by the majority. By adding a twist, viewer will know there in for at least one thing being different and will (maybe) enjoy it more.

If you look at the start of the series, before Utena became Baiser: you can see that some of Vena's minions are actual demons. It's not a bad guess to say that Vena could be powering the evil magical girls transformations with powers from hell. Maybe with the more stars a evil Magia has, the more power they can utilize from hell.
