Are watermelons in japan a scarse resource? Why do anime characters always make such a big deal about it?

This can't be real. What episode is this?

Watermelon is delicious, especially the square ones.

>Does the small island country with a limited space for agriculture have a hard time getting certain kinds of seasonal produce?

Fucking persona fags. I swear. You're an idiot.

They're extremely expensive since it's seen as a type of food that needs to be farmed in a certain way.
>A single melon can sell for upwards of 15,000 yen (around $200)

2 Chie

That’s retarded. I can get a melon for like 3 bucks

it's a dumb game of smashing them blindfolded.
People might call others dumb for making it a big deal for making the first cut of a cake.

are you sure that's not talking bout square melons?
they smash watermelons with bats in japan, you'd think that they would take more care with them then

Their strawberries are like $20 per pack. Fruit are used in gift-giving, so any fruit is sold for a premium because the demand will still be there.

They eat them after splitting them still, don't they?

How long have you lived in Japan?

7 vangingas
That's the regular melons cultivated in a certain way. It involves selecting a melon from each plant and cutting all others on the same plant so all the nutrition can go to a single fruit. That's why they are so expensive, since the production is so small.

As for why watermelons are so popular in anime I guess it's because watermelons are the de facto summer fruit around the world.

Because watermelons are delicious!!!

yeah, I know gift fruits in japan can get a little ridiculous
anyways, here's a fat guy sampling a 20k(~200$) yen melon and a 1000 yen (~10$) melon

You're retarded and you don't know how agriculture works.

It's racist desu.

I don't care how retarded nips are, their watermelons can't cost $200.

user is being dishonest.
When you read what he's saying it sounds like watermelons cost 15000 yen.
But that's not what his quote is actually saying.
The point is that premium grade watermelons can potentially reach a price of over 15000 yen.

they can and they do. there's regularly priced produce, and then there's the specially-raised produce that they sell for ridiculous prices

>he doesn't get excited for watermelons

Japs have hyper autism about certain things. Anything from a minor social inconvenience to certain fruits make them sperg out like crazy.

they're delicious

Kaji grew watermelons in post third impact japan. Don't give me all this shit about agriculture

Its not watermelon season yet, the cheapest one I have seen at the store was 3500yen and it was tiny.

What the fuck? I used to grow watermelons in my yard for free.

they're niggers. it's why the default fanta flavor is purple rather than orange

Even inside countries the price varies a lot in perishable consumables.

In brazil for example, brazilian nuts are called "Pará nuts", Pará being the name of a state, on the far north of the country because it is produced there, and even though in Pará those nuts are super cheap, the more further south you go in the country the more expensive they got. In the south and southeast, they are so fucking expensive they are considered a gourmet food. Same shit with Acai berries, in that region it's almost considered a plague, but it costs a fortune in other regions.

Now imagine that in a country surrounded by sea from all sides, where everything that gets in, is either by plane or ship. Of course exotic fruits are super expensive there.

Why do japanese eat watermelon with salt?

Attached: 1592811940484.jpg (1200x675, 87.46K)

Frankly it is more of 5$ , I just write 10$ to be safer since I don't know exact price

why do that post got deleted? It's true

>he doesnt salt his watermelons
I bet you don't know that papayas and pineapples go with salt as it supposed to be as well

cheap watermelons come from either the Philippines or Indonesia
