This is one of the best anime out there. While it does get recognition on Zig Forums, why was it a fucking FLOP

It didn't get recognition here either until we shilled the fuck out of it in unrelated threads.
Anons dropped it early on because of the gay shit, thinking it was for fujo only. Only after dedicated months after it aired did anons start to take notice due to all the shills. The threads during were pitiful maybe 30 posts a week, I kid you not.
The problem is really because nobody bothers to look into the creators. If they did they'd notice this was adapted from one of the best SF novels of Japan at that time. Not LN.

SSY is shit. The somewhat interesting ideas and social commentary can't make up for how fucking ugly the show looks, how fucking bland the characterization is, and how fucking dumb the narrative gets in the final arc.

It sadly has extremely inconsistent animation quality.
A few episodes look pretty good, some look average and some look really bad.

I absolutely loved this shit. Definitely underrated. is sadly right in that the source material was literally too good for the majority of potential viewers. Most people here can't spot nuance in any manga they read or show they watch judging by how they all post, much less something adapted from a legitimate novel.

Amazing series even if very flawed. The atmosphere and world were especially top-tier.

Plenty of legit criticisms for this show. Pacing being complete ass is the main problem, so many episodes of absolutely nothing happing only for them to speed through important stuff in like 5 minutes.

Plot>art. Loot at what happened to VEG, meguca or kimetsu no yaiba, they look pretty but don't have anything more to say.

If you rewatch the series you will notice that a lot of things are happening at the same time.
