What did you think about the new manga of the Beelzebub guy?

Do you really think the first chapter would be better if it stuffed everything the plot has to offer?

It was already quite dense. Establishing the characters is more important.

It's ok. I liked Marie's opening chapter more though.

It was doing some pretty good work introducing its lead characters and it could have been a fantastic one-shot.

Why? the cult/possibility of fish people is clearly meant to be part of the more long-term plot. There's no reason to bring them in just to be be some no name scrubs used to demonstrate the duo's similar policing styles like the fuccbois were used as. It's enough that we know about them for now, this way they can be used in a more intimidating manner in the future if that's the route they plan on going.

Genuinely expecting another axe for Tamura. Weak first chapter and outside of the surprise reveal there was nothing really fun, amusing or even interesting about it.
It seems more and more like he's just a one hit wonder.

I don't think viz gets a choice in the matter, the contracts they have probably say they have to translate every ongoing, as much as it may anger some staff that the company is working on this or ayakashi triangle they just have to grin and bare it or sueshia will go elsewhere, that said they might mess with the writing on this a bit over in japan if things don't blow over soon

VIZ media is owned by the Hitsotsubashi Group, that also owns Shueisha and is also co-owned by Shueisha, and now that Shueisha has redoubled their efforts to try and control the electronic distribution of their flagship magazine fully, the responsibility of translating and localizing all their titles has now been given to them as opposed to them selling the rights to third groups like Seven Seas, which would probably have picked up Ayashiki instead.
It's important to also remember that technically, Mangaplus is a seperate entity from VIZ as well. Not all titles on Mangaplus are translated by VIZ staff.

I stopped "trusting" 1st chapter impressions since the Jujutsu/Ziga/NN batch, a weak first chapter isn't THAT bad. We've seen series with strong 1st chapters turning to shit almost immediately
