2d is faster and cheaper than CG
No long running series even looks in the direction of CG because its straight up not viable in most cases.
A studio would opt to cg if
1)Nobody at the studio can animate a certain thing
2)they have a designated 3d animator in studio
3)They planned from tge start that an aspect of the show will be CG
