I recently watched it and yeah '99 is great, and in many ways superior. However, despite that the Chimera Ant arc gets dragged out in 2011 I felt that it was extremely important as a part of the whole journey. Without it, some things just feel a bit incomplete. They do their best in the last scene of the greed island to give some sort of conclusion, but the fact is that Gon is still in the middle of his journey. His confrontations later on is what everything has been building up to. And you can't really cut away an important piece of the story (especially not the third act) and compare them only by the technical bits. If 1999 had continued and completed the Chimera Ant arc it would 100% be the better adaptation, but as it is it's simply incomplete. So it's no wonder that the 2011 one is recommended.

11fags are the same people who put their favorite character as Keksoka and/or Moekillua. Funny because both these characters had a superior portrayal in the original anime. These faggots are also more prone to shit on the manga because it's "wordy" and have "bad" art. They are completely clueless about what's paneling, page composition, and choreography. They also lack complete understanding of art direction, what is actually good "animation", and what makes for a good fitting soundtrack. They keep jerking their adaptation to high heaven when it's a merely a panel-to-panel soulless representation of the manga; something that only worked fine due to Togashi's own exquisite choreography (which they themselves diss). Not only that, FagHouse completely butchered the chimera ant arc and failed to translate it into the visual medium. The only reason previous arcs didn't have the same glaring errors as it was because the hack directors at FagHouse were copying many of the original anime directional takes and ideas. For me 11fags are the culmination of everthing that's wrong with the current anime industry.

I skipped both because its a trash series made for retards that only contrarians latch onto. they confuse scarcity with quality, just like people who buy Apple products or buy anything that Nintendo purposefully under produces and act like they got the deal of a life time when they buy a mini nintendo for $100 (and DON'T RESELL IT) that plays infinitely fewer games than my free emulator.

While I totally get where you're coming from wince the final fantasy 7 remake is an abomination that shouldn't exist and I shudder to think of what they're going to do to Resident Evil 4 this is actually different since these are adaptions and not just any adaptions but an adaption for an ongoing series. 2011 has more story content then 1999 so a lot of people me included think it's just plain better.
