I'm a 19 year old Internet veteran and the general English-speaking anime webbase is going the way of every single fandom/niche I've been a part of online. The niche gradually gets more popular but still remains fairly underground, retaining a small, tight knit, dedicated and high quality following till the popularity pot gets full and everything slowly goes downhill as it gets more popular, the "pot" made of the core following can't contain the outsiders who refuse to assimilate and instead want the niche to bend to their own will, the niche becomes more normie friendly and the normie acceptance rate skyrockets. The pot grows in as a few more autists join but they're completely irrelevant at this point, they're an old pot at the bottom of the ocean they were supposed to contain.
The entire culture is wiped out, the pot was supposed to keep the outsiders long enough till they became part of the pot or fucked off and it failed.

It's been way too late ever since Jojo, OPM, and the rise of anime on Netflix. All that's really left is this site since normalfags think they'll get doxxed on here, but it's still a way different culture than it was years ago.

Look at how every series that get an anime adaptation are swamped by normalfags that had never heard of them before) that normalfags wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Anime gatekeeping isn't even a thing outside of America and some other Western countries from what I can tell. Most other parts of the world like Latin America and Asian countries grew up with anime to the point of it already being mainstream. Hard to gatekeep anime in places where it wasn't niche to begin with.

You say that but you fail to realize that most surface level anime fans outside of the West and Japan manage to gatekeep the entire genre from most outsiders by being themselves while the rest generally hide their powerlevel
The only exception are close and tolerant friends and even then the level of influence they can have would be so insignificant it wouldn’t make much of a difference
