Everyone in the room acted like this was a 4D chess psychological warfare provocation and not the white player making a blatantly illegal move. The black player (according to what other in-universe characters say) could have won by taking the white king (roll with it), but his pride prevented him from taking victory in such an unearned way so he just moved his king away. The white player then says he's gained a lot of insight into the black player's personality, the white player then leaves because he is no longer interested.

I think Code Geasss sucks regardless of the accuracy of the depiction of chess it's got far bigger problems in it's writing. I could go on forever about how bad the writing is but it's not worth my time. enjoy it for the action and CC I guess but don't pretend the writing is good.

you know I never quite understood why people got so butthurt about this scene. The only reason that move is illegal is cause it would just be suicidal in a game. In other similar games like shogi moving the king into check isn't against the rules its just essentially forfeiting. Do people just care so much cause they want to autistically hold up the rules of chess? I guess its weird no one said anything but thematically at least it makes sense.

I know playing chess is an easy crutch way to show that two characters are intelligent or having a battle of wits, but why would you make a chess scene in your story if you don't even know the rules or can't do basic research to make it not look fucking retarded

I've seen lots of anime good and bad and Code Geass isn't the worst but it's the most frustrating. There's so many fucking plotholes in this show I'm meant to take seriously. Everything including Suzaku to the genocide scene to the final scene it's all retarded and pathetic garbage.

The most retarded thing to me is that throughout the entire series, we're shown that Lelouch's chess strategy is to always mobilize his king as soon as possible. This goes with his "kings should lead by example" mentality, but as an actual chess strategy is fucking retarded. There is no way that anyone that plays this way could ever win a game against a competent player, he's putting himself at a huge handicap, wasting time putting his king in a vulnerable position while letting the opponent set up a more useful board.

You know, this reminds me of how in Naruto, Asuma and Shikamaru have a different idea of what the "king" represents. Instead of being the Hokage, the king represents the next generation, the ones that Shinobi are actually supposed to protect, thus it makes perfect sense to sacrifice everything for their sake.
